That's why I meant Don't Click it.

Why did you put a link to it in a new topic, if I'm not supposed to click on it?

Kevin

There is technique and then there is wisdom. You are learning technique fairly fast. On the wisdom side, you are not doing too well. While the web is your great big playground right now - it, like the rest of the world, can be a pretty ugly (and dangerous) place.

There is simply no way you should be posting the following content:My name is #### ####.
I am 12 years old. I am from #### ####, ##.
I am in ##th grade at ##### ###### School.
My teachers name is Miss ####.
I have a girlfriend and her name is ######.
She is in my class.
I am putting this site together because
I think paintball is awesome.

# names blanked to protect the innocent.
With this information I know where you live, where your school is, I even have a map and can figure out the way you probably go to school (Well, maybe not - you probably get a drive or take the bus). I know who your neighbors are and probably could make up a story that would fake you out like I know your family or something. Oh, do you guys still have to watch the "Channel One News Show" every day?

So: Its just not safe. Don't do it. If I can figure it out, so can someone who doesn't have benign intent. I know ByteWizard has said similar things to you recently. Maybe we are a couple of old farts, but we've been around long enough to know that "nothing can happen to me" is often "famous last words."

Samuel Clements once said...

When I was 16 years old, I was amazed at how little my father knew. By the time I turned 21, I was amazed at how much the old man had learned.

Kevin,

I have to agree with DC and ByteWizard. Please for your own saftey redo your personal web page!

You have great skill and it would be a shame to see it gone should someone use your page to locate and harm you.

Yup that would be the mother in me talking!

Nice site for the business btw!

Hi Kevin,

Your Netfirms site still gives pretty detailed directions to your house. I'd change that ASAP. And don't get angry at anybody. We just don't want you to get hurt.

The paintball site is cool.

Kevin -

Nice paintball site, and plenty of potential for expansion (I'm into Airsoft, similar, but different).

To increase the visitors, I'd suggest that you identify a niche of paintball that's not currently being looked at on Paintball web sites, and theme your site around that; it's what I did for Practical Airsoft, (http://www.practicalairsoft.co.uk/) and it worked for me nicely.

Now, without lecturing, or harping on about things that others have said, and meaning no offence at all, do try to keep personaly identifying info about yourself off the net - I'm at an age where I won't be a target for such animals as others are suggesting, but you aren't, and therefore need to be ultra-careful. Trust me - I used to be a Military Policeman! Better to be safe, than sorry, eh?

Good luck with the web sites, by the way, and do think about that niche idea - it may be interesting to see where you can go with it!

I don't know what you mean by "niche" idea!

OK, in this case, a 'niche' is an area of the hobby that has not been explored, documented, and so on, elsewhere.

For Practical Airsoft, I exploited the fact that there was little or no advice to newbies in the hobby, as to what they should get, clothing- and equipment-wise, and so on, for them to begin to enjoy the hobby to a fuller degree.

In the case of your Paintball web site, you need to see if there are sites that provide information on what you think there should be and, if not, develop your web site to fill that particular angle.

In that way, you can (a) help others, and (b) get more hits, and quite possibly (c) get the respect of other Paintballers as well, for giving them information that they would not otherwise be able to find.

You could even find associate programmes that could earn you some welcome cash, too (I use Amazon - it helps with the hosting costs ;) You could find others as well!).

Good luck!

What is an associate program? (I'm only 12)

Redcap

OK, given that you're under the age of possessing a bank account (checking account, that is) in the US (AFAIK, of course!), you'll need some help on this from your parents, so involve then in this - if they're anything like mine were, they'll jump at the chance to help.

An Associates programme is a kind of reseller system. You market products belonging to another commercial web site (such as Amazon.com), using specific HTML code that they supply to you. Every time that someone purchases an article through your web site link to that Associate program, you get a small percentage in return, like a commission fee. It's not much, but it does help to offset ISP/hosting fees, at least in the early days of a web site.

It may be that there is no such Associate program that would suit your site. In that case, you'l need to think about banner (the so-called 'click-through') advertising method, but that can get both messy in terms of layout, and in terms ofthe returns it can and cannot generate.

As with all things, look CAREFULLY before you even consider leaping, and, (no offence) consult your parents or legal guardian before embarking on these ideas - there are specific legal requirements (in all cases) to be fulfiled!

Good luck with the web site!

I think i'll wait a bit on that! But, thanks RedCap!

Probably a wise choice, this early in the life-cycle of your site - and no problem, at all. Glad to help.

Good luck, however things turn out!
