re: Six buttons window bomb and "don't want to hear about it" attitude.
Not funny. Bad company. Grow up!
Going to use someone else's software. Bye!

Use HTML Builder (from Code Builders (http://code-builders.com)) It's just like 1st Page, but with actual support!

Well, yes I did. You can't post without signing up.
I thought about not saying anything at all, but decided that since much work (obviously) went into developing this software, the authors deserved at least <i>some</i> indication of why people might be staying away, not only from 1st Page 2000, but also from <b>any</b> Evrsoft products.
It could be important to the authors. The reason that this is even an issue for me is because I am a student in a college IT program, and one of our classes requires us to build a website using an editor (specifically not Notepad, and emphatically not one that uses proprietary tags).
1st Page 2000 seemed like a very good candidate for us to use mainly because it is very powerful, easy to use, and - because we are all penny-concious students - free.
The problem is that many of the students in this class can not get the program installed on their computer because their anti-virus program has fits about the six buttons from hell script. Security is strongly emphasized in the IT program, and every one of our computers is "mission critical".
On researching this issue, I discovered that the script poses no real problem, particularly since it must be deliberately invoked, and causes no lasting damage to the user's system.
I also discovered that Evrsoft's attitude is that "this is a joke, and we don't want to hear any complaints about it".
None of the adult students in my program think that this is very funny, and we are insulted that a software company would take this indifferent attitude to their users.
Even though the software is free, presumably the company hopes to benefit in some way - perhaps by gaining gratitude (loyalty) or respect of the people who use the software.
This issue, and the response, blows all that out of the water.
I realize that my previous post was too brief and flippant, and I should (and do) appologize for that.
My attitude may not seem valid to you or to Evrsoft, but it is valid to me and others in my position. If these comments are not welcome, well... I can only shrug and count the time spent as wasted.

Well, that has been pointed out like... many times before, so I'm pretty sure they (or maybe he?) know about it.
I agree that including such scripts was not the best decision though.

We-ell, I don't know what the exact JavaScript buttons are that you are talking about, but I do know that thinking of EvrSoft like a company is a mistake. Maybe technically it is, but the primary author is still in college and EvrSoft, best as we people on the board have been able to tell, consists of one singular individual person. One. He, the guy who started up that ImHosted.com site mentioned on the main page, has been rather unresponsive to any communication attempts people make trying to contact EvrSoft.
So throw all these company ethics assumptions out the window, because it's not even like there's ever been a unified team of people that worked on 1st Page or for EvrSoft. The project wasn't made totally by one person, but 1st Page is primarily this one person's doing (being a modification of Under Construction 98, the same program that Code Builders's HTML Builder is made from), and full control over it seems to be in the sole hands of this one same person.
If you want freeware backed by a company that is more up to date on technology (with hundreds of plugins available, ability to use Microsoft's speech reading interface, real-time split previews of Explorer and Gecko style renderings, see http://www.htmlkit.com for my current favorite HTML Editor.
I learned about it recently and have been coming back to this site only to try to follow up on some discussion which I haven't seen restarted yet, restarted since the one person in charge of EvrSoft decided to show up for the first time in half a year just to do two things: Delete the thread and any url's to Code Builder's site. The damage was already done, though, many people left here and went there.

1st Page 2000 contains a javascript file called six buttons from hell.izs - antivirus programs detect this file as containing js.trojan.windowBomb. (pushing a button causes a flurry of windows to open until you run out of resources; apparently affects the system clock).
Not exactly destructive, but could cause loss of data if you have unsaved work open when your computer crashes.
I haven't tried htmlkit yet, but plan to take a look. I have been using the code builders product
(www_code-builders_dot_com),
and find I like it quite a bit, although it is not as easy to use as 1st Page.
It's too bad that Evrsoft (he or they as the case may be) won't address this -or any- issue because it looks like a lot of effort went into development. I hate to see so much work going to waste due to such a trivial thing.
Not so trivial (to me) though, is the attitude: "Know about it, don't care about it, stop bugging me".
Thanks for your reply, and I will take a look at the htmlkit.
