lol. Rubber you can also try:

Google is a great search engine. (One of the best). Once you get your links working right, Google will bring you lots of traffic. For example, do a search for "html editor" and we are listed as #5. Do one for "free html editor" and we are listed as #3. :)

You don't really have to submit your page to Google. It will find you earlier or later, if you like it or not ;)

dont count on it. you have no idea how many millions of pages on the web have not been indexed by a single search engine. if they all where, it would be a lot easier to find things on the net. thats my theory, anyway.

but with google, that isnt realy a problem. all you need to do is narrow down your search a little.
and seriously, do you complain more when google only returns 2 pages for your query, or when it returns 1000 pages?

I did the add URL to google and it took about 6 months before I finally got mine added so don't expect it to be added right away.

sometimes it takes a while to get your site 'spidered'. im not sure if there is any way to get around that, except that some companies will give you priority if you pay them.

You can put in Dmoz.org directory
they will put you home page in Google and other pages
use directory folder and then submit

There are few ways that I'm aware of:
- Fast Submit (by EvrSOFT, other services available too, but why to search if it's under your nose? =))
- Google Spider (just wait few hours/days, it will find you)
- Submit page on google.com
- Submit page on dmoz.org
- Become a dmoz.org moderator and add your page =)
- If you happen to use Google Toolbar, just turn the advanced mode on, and it will send to Google all the pages you're viewing, then go to your page =)

Looking at paying for listings from the searchers point of view, I can't help thinking that my results will end up showing the sites that have the largest advertising budget, rather than the sites that are more targetted to my search query.
That's why I'm not very keen on the idea (it's not just that I can't afford to pay, really it isn't ... :D )

Well, with such attitude, you'll never submit your site, because all the search engines work this way...

I've submitted my site plenty of times to google and so far I have not seen my site up there. In time I'm sure it will show up.
So have i.. patience i guess...
To get a higher place in the listing try using meta tags also. Really good.

I submitted to DMOZ, thinking that getting into the directory would be quicker, and in about a week I found my site listed in Google, but have yet to get listed in the directory (8 months later).
Being in Google is great, seeing as to how Yahoo and other engines also use Google.

Your search engine rating is in part due to the meta tags, in part to how long you've been online but to some extent the speed at which your site is indexed by the search engines is by the frequency of times the engine's spiders find your site.
On the World Wide Web exposure to search engines through third party links helps a lot.
A site which may help give you ideas is www.searchenginewatch.com
Search engines are only one of many ways of being noticed, webrings, guestbooks and specialised websites can all be used to attract traffic.
When webmastering search engines are a form of broadcasting, think of the smaller communities and use them, as time progresses your site may be at the top of the search engines and all this free.

My website is a prime example of this.

When submitting to Google, you aren't actually ading your self to their main directory. They call from a database called ZWEB or something like that, its a comon database througout many search engines....so indeed, submitt...

I think all the things mentioned so far are important, but the most important is having links to your site on other sites. This both helps Google to find your page and increases your page rank on Google.

In regard to link popularity, don't do what a freind of mine (who will remain un-named, to protect the completely gormeless!) did, which was submitting his site to a couple of those so-called Free For All link sites - (a) they're generally spam harvesters, and (b) you can get banned by Google for trying it on!

I don't think it takes 6 months. I submitted to google and kept checking, and then suddenly, after about three weeks there was my site on google. But I still don't understand what keywords should be used and if my site comes up for keywords.
I think the fastest way for you to get recognized by google is to have your site linked at other sites. I noticed as soon as flashmove.com listed my site then google had it.

I've recently found that posting your keywords on the major search engines through the search engines own message boards gets you much respect in terms of placement. While I have been too busy to promote one of my sites through submitting them to the search engines, I've found that the topics covered in the yahoo groups concerning the site that I tout on the message board helps considerably. I get huge hits from yahoo and google partially because I've used their message boards which are free i might add. Another great thing to use that is guaranteed is the google adwords or overture adword programs. This is a cpc but you can set your limit per day. Just some thoughts.

I've been experimenting with Google for a while and got a few sites listed at Google in the top 5. Google seems to prefer the following in a rough order of priority.
meta tags
Keywords in the page title (So if your site is about spanners "Kevin's World of Spanners")
number of times that keywords from the meta tags are in the text itself (keyword density)
how many sites that are already in google that link to you.
Bear in mind the following
Google WONT find a page unless you submit it or a site already in it's listings links to you. (Or a site that links to you is linked to Google).
Google's spider seems to completely ignore the noindex and nofollow tags in the robot metag and will index all your pages it finds relevant. It ignores robot.txt as well.
This causes major problems if your site uses frames. There's a script at Javascript source for checking that a page is called from a paticular source (ie: via your menu or similair) and if it isn't then redirects it. http://javascript.internet.com/user-details/must-visit-from.html
Being listed on google.com doesn't appear to ensure listing on the same keyword at google.co.uk
Google seems to give preference to submissions that are done through their own site rather than through a submission service.
Google now supplies Yahoo and Netscape amongst others with listings.
If you use the Author tag then it will index you on your name.
Hope this all helps.

Yeah it is a tough one to figure out!! I had made some posts in another forum and when I did my search on the word latinagear I came back in the first three positions in google, excite, and yahoo but none were for the site www.latinagear.com BTW that is not my intentions here but who knows it might help. I think the reason the latinagear came in high was because of the sites it was mentioned in. Two were Kobe forums, and the third return was for a home page on Road Runner. The actual site was not listed.www.bigdawgcaps.com

The best way to get indexed fast into google is by building links. No doubt about it.
If you submit to google, either via a third party of through google themselves then it can take months for them to get around to it.
Let the spiders do the work! - Put your links in good places (PR3 sites or above) and then the spiders will crawl those links and findya! - thats their job!
It is possible to get sites indexed in a matter of a few days via link building.
If you need any advice about this email me (info@footprintlinks.com) - don't worry, although we offer linkbuilding services for payment, advice is free - especially on this forum.
