First Page XP just has a professional sounding name to it...

I don't like 1st Page XP either, because it's a Windows name. Since the current ver is 1st Page 2000, then 1st page 2003 makes the most sense. I hated it when Windows started using different ways of naming their upgrades... where does ME fit in, anyway?

If I saw a product called Something XP, I'd assume I needed Windows XP to run it. Will it need XP? If not, I'd go for another name.

what about calling it 1st Page 3.0 and than if theres an update within the year you call it 3.1, 3.2 and so on.

I dont know if your part of the programming team for the newest 1st page but maybe they should have thought about using java...then it would be compile once run anywhere like sun says. With version 1.4 there is a great speed increase...
I would have liked a linux version :sheep:

Hi @ll
is it possible to become beta tester for First Pag 3(or whatever it will be called) ? I think a loooooooong time ago there was already a name-poll .
I really would like to help you developing it .
What do you think about a site where you collect scripts and later they can be downloaded for 1st page ? (a bit like macromedias extension manager ;-)
if there will be a java manager , make an editor like in flash actionscript (now you all know i am a mm user , except Homesite :)

Gotta Say, though, at the rate things have been going it might be 1st Page 2004:mad:

Don't use 2003, given 12 months it will sound dated and old hat. You will struggle to find new users that realise it is a modern technology.
Using names like 'XP' is fine, but makes it harder for the user to see if he/she is up to date with the sofware updates, etc. Also, what happens when the next version of windows is released and the name changes? XP sounds dated.
Version numbering has to be the way to go. No nonesense, clear and easy for the user to understand.
By the way, have you heard about the new version of windows? They are combining the portability of CE with the ease of use of ME and the power of NT.
I believe Windows CEMENT should hit the shelves in the near future!!!!!! :D

How about "1stpage Odysseus"
If you remember that Odysseus is the dude that commanded the trojan wooden horse to the assult inside the complex. Way back in the day of ancient Rome.
Something that might bring to power of 1stpage to light, and destroy the other companies inside out. Or at least make other companies quiver with envoy. Netcrafting app's are important to us.
Hehe "Hey it could happen"

Windows 2k emulates well under Linux If I can remember where I put it I can give you a link to emulate win2k under linux then you can run 1stpage in linux. BTW linux runs windows alot faster than the native enviroment.
Buddy me up inside this message board. So as I can get reminded.

how about 1st Page MX?
can any of the moderators put 1st Page MX on the poll?

KriTenKs & drak: I added your suggestions...
Anyway, I don't really think that it is up to us what will be the name of the future product, but I hope that the developers will visit this poll and notice our suggestions.
Are we going to name another future Microsoft name of MX for 1stPage?
Can we just use simple number so everybody will know the next version.
I give up holding back my vote.

That Odysseus chap took an awful long time to get to where he was going as well, didn't he? Could be a very apt monniker:cons:
I voted for 1st Page 3. Others have already spelled out my main objections:
1. XP is Microsoft's designation for their products.
2. 2003 will indeed sound dated as of Jan 1, 2004.
3. A proper version number is professional, and functional

Thoughts:
1st Page 2003: I don't think it fits because the name will be kinda pointless after the end of the year 2003. In addition, usually the programs that released under the the following mask: <program name><year>, released in <year-1> in order to show that the product is somehow innovative by assigning it the name of the next year. It seems now that the next version of FP won't be released until 2003.
1st Page XP & 1st Page Max & 1st Page MX: As it was noticed before, adding the 'XP' part in the end of the program name in order to try and show that it is as new and kewl like Windows XP is kinda stupid and the most important, it sounds kinda cheap, like "How lame! They couldn't come up with an original name for a program, so they copy it from someone else, from Microsoft!". Another point is, what will you do when Microsoft releases their next OS which won't be 'XP'? The program name then will symbolize something old and nobody will like to use it. The same about Max (like 3D Studio Max) and MX (like Macromedia Dreamveawer MX).
1st Page 3: This is the one I voted for, now what motivated me? It uses the old and proven mask of <program name><version number>, if the current version is 2.0, it will be normal that the next one will be 3.0. Also it stands for itself, without no additions stolen/copied/inspired from other programs.
1st Page: Shows no version number, and at least for me gets association with version number 1. The current version is 2.0 so it seems like the program is degradatiing, so people may think that it worse than the current and won't use it.
1st Page HTML & 1st Page Developer HTML & 1st Page HTML Kit: People may get the wrong idea that the product has things to do only with HTML while it has more features but the potensial customers will think that it's all about HTML.
1st Page Odysseus: I don't really have a good enough explanation why I didn't vote for this name, I just don't think that the name can attract me to use this product. :D

if they do call it 1st Page MX, they could call the brother version 1st Page MX Ultradev!

Nah, this is EvrSOFT, not Macromedia :D
It might sound stupid and it might have been answered but... When does 1st page 3 (that is what I voted for) hits the stand?
I am using version 2.0 and it is great! Nice piece of work.

I prefer 1st Page 3.0 myself. 1st Page XP sounds like a Microsoft rip.
So....is First Page XP going to be the final name? Does this poll even accomplish anything?

I don't think that this poll can make some one in EvrSOFT dev. team to change the name of the product.
This poll's purpose is to check what name you'd like it to have.

In the years waiting for the next release I have been stopping by the EVR site every once and awhile in anticipation. You named the first release and did very well with it. The names you have posted for us to vote are all names used in other software titles. Come on this is EVRSoft makers of the finest freeware HTML editor ever made. Maybe, It’s time to simplify the name like call it “Page” or if you want to use abbreviations call it “EVR Page” or “Page EVR” or how about “Ever Page” or if you want to use the XP thing which stands for an OOP philosophy known as ‘extreme programming’ how about “Extreme Page 2004” now that’s a name that is very similar in syllables to the previous and makes the same statement but doesn’t appear to follow anyone else.

Third Page would be good except for the fact that it would make the name sound as if it where third rate instead of first. Besides, using names that are similar works. For example: If Coca-Cola made a product say ‘Vanilla Coke’ If I like a Vanilla flavored Coke I would much rather buy ‘Vanilla Coke’ than ‘Vanilla XP Cola’ cause I know the ‘Coke’ Name. In reality I agree that 1st Page 3 would be the best name though there’s not much spice to it to make it sound as if it where a new product. In reality I don’t care what they call it because I know when it is released it’s going to be one of the best tool’s I have on my hard drive.
Not when, but if.
...or even at all

Hmmm...If my mind serves me correctly (unless I lost it somewhere down the line), I think sometime back in 2001 (or was that 2002) we had voted for a new name for 1st page....who knows. keeping it as 1st page 3 is just fine if it is completed in 2003.
~had to make a new account because I had forgotten my old pass and probably changed ISP's 2 or 3 times between the waiting for this new version.

Hi, Sheva: When I posted my last message (in early July), 1st Page 2003 had more votes than any other name... I don't really care what it's gonna be called... I'm more interested in when it's gonna be released.
It's the best all-around html editor I've run across. Front Page, Coffee Cup, Arachnophilia, and Dreamweaver all have lots of bells and whistles, but 1stPage is still the easiest and fastest to use.
I'm disappointed in the final release Transfer plug-in's lack of compatibility with XP, but there are other and better FTP clients available. It was just more convenient to do it from within the same package.
The only feature it didn't have (or I couldn't find) was opening, editing, saving and closing large groups of files at one time. I can easily do that with Arachnophilia, but that program is Java driven and requires the large 10Mb Java runtime engine.
Does it really matter what it's called ?
Unless you are trying to sell it.

I say 1st Page 4.0
The 4 is the year 2004 and the zero the release number so if you have 3 versions in 2004 the third one would be 4.3 version
To be honest I don't like things starting with a number like 1st.
and I get mixed up with 1stpage and frontpage for a moment sometimes. I tell a friend you should get fronpage mate !! oh NO NO I mean eeerm First page, I think thats whats its called first page. its by eversoft anyways and its a great peice of software, No sorry E V R soft no E ...

1ST Page Two-double-oh-three has a nice ring to it.
I started using 1St page about two years ago, a segment of The Screen Savers mentioned it just as I had begun looking for a decent HTML editor.
Never looked back, used a couple of others, but always came back to 1st page.
now, if I could just find some spare time.......................
first page 2003 is going to sound old, on January 1st 2004, XP probably won't be the next moniker for WIndows next edition and it will give the impression the program is dated.

In my own opinion, anything that closely resembles Bill Gates Products such as XP should never be used in naming a product that works. Be extra careful when choosing a name.
The name you choose will reflect back good or bad depending on which name is chosen for the new 1st page product.

How about "1st Page H/C" or something similar, to reflect it's support of HTML and CSS.

I still think it should be:
1st Page the best damned editor you could ever possibly hope to get especially being free
But i am sure thats a bit too long
How bout just 1st page v. Whatever version it is
Focus more on the content than the name is what I say... People know what it is by now and will it's a new version, too much is lost in trying to focus more on the name then what is behind the name...
