I use two main programs for my image design... Adobe Photoshop 6 and Adobe Live Motion. I use Photoshop primarily for photos and Live Motion for my designs of title banners, logos, navigation buttons, etc. Live Motion is faster and better for these designs, in my opinion.
The problem I'm having is that 1st Page won't fill in the proper image dimensions for graphics designed in Live Motion. It brings the graphics into the edit area with "height="0" width="0". If I design something or use photographs which I've saved in Photoshop in the "Save for Web" area, 1st Page will show the dimensions of the graphic properly, but in order to make first page put in the dimensions of graphics designed in Live Motion, I have to open Photoshop and save them again in "Save for Web" to make the dimensions appear.
Is this a major bug in 1st Page or what? I've discovered it also has a problem with graphics saved in Photoshop in anything but "Save for web". If I just use "Save As" or resave a graphic, it won't show the dimensions either.
Has anyone else has this problem with graphics in 1st Page? If so, what did you do about it? I either have to save the graphics twice or choose to use another HTML editor.

Welcome to the forums!
Hey! You use the same main 2 programs I use! Cool Beans!
It really sucks that you'd have to save your graphics twice, twice the compression...
I quickly tried to insert something made in liv, a .swf and it won't even bring in the height or width dimensions.
It's trying to link to the file, like it would another web page, it acts like it's not truly inserting an object...
But that's with flash and I just realized I don't think you're talking about that LOL
Just experimented... made an object {gif} in Live, inserted it and the w & h are there, correctly.. so I don't know what the deal is. Why can't you just manually put in the dimensions? (I dunno sometimes I ask crazy things...)
I hope that babble helped a bit.
Again, welcome! http://www.clicksmilie.de/sammlung/verkleidung/costumed-smiley-072.gif

It's great that we use the same two programs :) Yes, when I save my object in Live Motion I "export selection" as either a jpg or a gif. When I take that image into 1st Page and drag it over onto my editing area, it puts height and width in as zeros. Is there a better way to save the graphic in Live Motion that would help 1st Page pick up the dimensions? Do you save yours using "export selection"?
I could enter the height and width by hand, yes, but then I'd still have to put them into Photoshop in order to see the sizes. If I have to do that I might as well save them again.... you see what I mean.
All these are unnecessary steps in a process that should be easy. It forces me to go back to my other HTML editor, Arachanapholia. It easily puts all graphics in and adds their sizes automatically no matter which graphics program I'm using.
Thanks for trying.....

While it is small consolation, if you use a thumbnail viewer like Irfanview, you can read the dimensions of graphic images by hovering over the thumbnail. It means you have to fill them in by hand, but at easet you don't have to open a graphics program to access the properties. The other possibility, though, is that the images are being created withoug the dimension information in ht heading. there are a couple of gif variants, for example, and maybe that is the problem.

I don't think this is the case because the HTML editor Arachnopholia 4.0 will pick up the dimensions on graphics I created in Live Motion, but 1st Page won't. It's a very confusing problem. I really love using 1st Page, but have to go back to Arachnopholia if I'm entering graphics made in Live Motion.

Interesting problem. I use PaintShop Pro 7 for image editing, and I have no trouble dragging images into 1st Page 2000. The correct height and width are automatically inserted for me. This works whether or not I use images that were exported and optimized or images that were originally GIFs or JPGs. Maybe Live Motion does something weird to the dimension data of the image. Even if you have to enter the dimensions manually, I would think Live Motion would show you that info. PSP shows dimensions even before you open an image, plus it is always displayed at the bottom while an image is open.

I think if someone were to go into the header sections (using a hex viewer) of the same gif exported from various graphics programs, that differences would emerge. There are a couple of gif formats and flavours and it may be that some export filters create non-standard data. The header readers in the importing program have got to be up-to-date to handle new variants. I suspect that is why we se Arachnophilia stripping the header info but not the more elderly 1st Page.

Firstly, thanks tm for the Irfanview website ;)
And secondly, I also use PaintShopPro7, and have no trouble with images moved to FirstPage either.....hmmmmm

Another prog. that shows the W&H of the img is ACDSEE(any version)
You might want to try :
right-click the file, select properties, use the second tab (or third if present, not quite sure), press advanced if not already set, and simply read the height and width there... Other cool stuff such as resolution, color depth should be available. (feature present on windows 2000 or higher, maybe win Me -- but i`m not sure, never tried)
But... As someone well informed posted before me, different software creates different files- I know it`s not normal but we have to live with it... :)
Also may I ask : If you designed the file, how can you not know the W&H???? after, all you made it?!? - I work Photoshop every day & trust Adobe totally; I don`t use the other, but i`m sure it asks for the file parameters before creating it when you hit "new".

How can I not know the dimensions of the graphic if I've created it? This is one of the odd things about Live Motion... you just make a shape with the shapes tool, drag it into what size looks good (there is nothing that tells you the size as in Photoshop), then add "styles", text and patterns to the graphic.
To save the graphic as a jpg or gif you "export". If you use save or save as the graphic is saved as a Live Motion file, a .liv. I always save it first as a .liv because all the different steps are in the graphic before exporting.
If there is someone who can tell me how to save or export my graphic with the dimensions so that 1st Page will pick them up automatically, then I'd be very happy.
You see, I started to use 1st Page after using Arachnapholia, which is a free program that automatically picks up all graphics dimensions, including the ones created in Live Motion. Since I've been used to having the dimensions inserted automatically when I create a web page, I guess I'm spoiled, so can't find any reason to keep using 1st Page when it won't do the same thing Arachnapholia does so easily. See my point?
I like the ability 1st Page gives to simply drag the image from the left menu and onto the page, but if it won't pick up the dimensions from Live Motion files, then it doesn't do what I need it to do.
I'm still hoping someone who uses Live Motion and 1st Page will be able to help me figure out a way to fix things so I can use 1st Page efficiently.
Thanks....
