I have 1st page as set as the edit program for all html files on my hard drive. Thus, when I right-click and select edit, the page should open in 1st page. It don't.

It also "don't" if I attempt to open via right-click-->open with-->1st page or right-click-->open with-->brose--> first page.

Any suggestions?

Have you added it to your Send-to menu? That worked for me - I haven't got round to adding it to my new PC, so I haven't checked it out on XP, but it should work OK.

I understant that "send-to" is just for making a copy of the file. What I want to do is open it. The shortcut appears to be OK - even has a %1 placeholder for the parameter of the file to be opened, but it appears that maybe FirstPage doesn't accept parameters. Which would be kinda unusual.

If you add a program (like 1st Page) to the send to, then right-click your file and choose send to > 1st page, it will open it. It works OK under Win98, but I haven't got round to adding it in WinXP.

'Send To' is an actual folder that you can add shortcuts to applications into. For example, if you add the program 'XnView' to your sendto folder, then you can open a .bmp image with XnView by right clicking and 'sending it' to XnView.

This is what I did before I knew how to edit the right click context menus for each extension.

------
To edit your sendto menu on Win98 / Win95 , navigate to C:\Windows\SendTo .

Its a bit different for Windows 2000 / XP , because of how the multiuser thing is set up. If you log onto your Win2k box as 'administrator', your SendTo folder would be located in [ C:\Documents and Setting\Administrator\SendTo\ ] if you login as another user, it would be under that username, but you would have to navigate to your username and manually add the '\sendto\' in the explorer path because its hidden by default.

In most cases, however, its best to just edit the right-click context menus:

--
In a Win98 type system, you would use [ Start --> Settings --> Files and Folders ]

On a Win2k/XP system, you would open the 'folder options' shortcut in the control panel.

--
You would click on the 'file types' tab, and find the extension of the context menu that you want to edit (.HTML in your case), click the 'advanced' button.

--
Then you would select 'new', and fill in the name of the context menu entry, and the path of the program you want to use. In your case, you might want to put exactly this (quotes included):

"C:\Program Files\Evrsoft\1st Page 2000\1stPage.exe" "%1"

I've done all that. Turns out, what you have to do is set it the html editor in a Settings tab (I forget where).
