View Full Version : Catchy Logo/Banner for a Newbie?

I am new to the website making world, slowly but surely learning the html I need to make a decent site. I am still unsure of the overall look of the page I want to create. I was thinking perhaps a decent banner with a logo would be a good start? A Logo that pertains to the site. Fun Files and Smiles (http://www.funfilesandsmiles.com) I am not sure of a banner size or font, but I am looking for something "fun". The site will contain material such as the name "Fun Files" and a "Smiley" page. I would however like to stay away from the "traditional smiley face" within the logo though. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

I'm thinking a retro look might be kinda swift here.
For starters, there are many retro fonts out there, but some of my personal favs are on FontDiner.com (http://www.fontdiner.com/main.html).
I would stick with mainly pastels or darker colors that are rich, smooth abnormal shapes and those cool *sparkly* stars. Maybe even some cool plaid patterns or circles.

I agree, the regular smilie :) is like, overdone, cripsy and dry anymore. But if you could make a retro looking smilie it might be kinda slick.

Here's a header I've made for a site of mine with a retro look. This is "the type of look" I'm referring to.

If you like these ideas and want some help, hollaback :D

Thanks Animgirl! Thats exactly what I'm looking for, something different, most of all fun and not so ho-hum. Pastel's would be a great idea? It would go with the current black background, unless you think it it would make the page look too drab, then I could make it a white or lighter color? I am totally open for suggestions or ideas ;) I'm really not satisfied with the current layout.
I'd love the help!
Thanks,

Well pastels was a suggestion, but by the looks of your page, that would be the total opposite side of the color spectrum :)

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of black, something about it reminds me of those free sites where pop-ups flap in your face and all the text is neon colored with gaudy .gifs. (NO offense to anyone) It tends to be harsh on the eyes I think.

BUT I've seen a trend on several retro themed sites of the black white and red colors, one of which: Dinc Fonts (http://www.girlswhowearglasses.com)

When I think of retro colors I initially think of wintergreens, bubblegum pinks, light blues, candy reds, pastels here and there, stuff like that (not all together, of course!) and chrome. LOL but that's just me ;)

I think the first thing you want to establish is a solid color scheme. Do you favor rich darker colors over more pastels ones? Do a search on google for retro and see what it brings up. Try to find some retro colors that suit what you like. Then we can play around with those.

I've done some searching, and I think I like the darker richer smooth colors. Blues, oranges, purples, yellows, greens.
I do like the *sparkly* font suggestion, if you think it would
work with these colors?
A "different" kinda of smiley might look good within the logo also, what do you think?
Thanks again :)

Sure! I think a sparkly font would be fine with darker colors.
Yeah, I think a styled smile would look good with the logo, like you said. Something different.

Do you have any ideas?

I really have no ideas, other than what I've shared.
I wish I had the graphic talent that some of you have. :(

Any suggestions or help you could give me would be appreciated :)

I love them both! I can't decide!

I love the first one, it is very cool! i like the font and how you included the smiley. It's so unique!

The second would go with so many backgrounds! but yet has the traditional yellow smiley, but he's so cute! i love how he blinks! What are your thoughts on changing the color of the smiley in the 2nd one?

Which one do you favor? With what backgrounds?

Please share your thoughts....they are both great creations!

I like the first one too. ;)

Thanks all! #1 it is! :D

Yes, I am a "newbie" with very little creative talent.
Without animgirl and tmmoose's concepts, I would have been
at a loss.

Well....now I'm off to learn tables! lol :smack:

Thanks again!
