View Full Version : Beating POP UP Blockers

We have additional systems critical information that POP UP’s allow us to save real estate with. Our members are novice PC users for the most part and don’t know how to turn their blockers off.

Is there a script that will allow us to null the POP UP Blockers or should we just target a new window and hope they don’t already have another window open on the task bar that it opens in and they miss that too?

If we do target a new window instead of using a POP UP, does anybody here know what the IE Default new window size is. Having dragged mine to full size, I can’t get it to go back to default again to find out.

Thanks,

Uh, this guy appears to work for an Internet marketing company. He is looking for a way to bypass popup blockers. Put two and two together people.

This is just bull****. As far as I am concerned this guy can go to hell. It's more likely their so-called "members" (victims more like
it) are hapless internet users who have no interest in seeing these so-called "systems critical information".

Why wouldn't they simply post a page for their members with instructions on how to turn off their popup blockers?

I just got done writing a piece on how the web should be. That person has got to be pretty stupid or just does not get it. If someone has installed a pop-up blocker on their pc and one was able to bypass it. What would be the purpose? Obviously they would not even look at it. Click on About Us and there is a link that says Things that make a good site look bad! www.bigdawgcaps.com Abuse is no excuse!!!

David Bindel, Great answer.

The POP-Ups are for members, in a password protected area for members only. The Pop-Ups work via clickable links not something that automatically pops up when you go to a public page trying to sell you some kind of crap. They provide indepth additional information on services available for those that are not already aware.

We supply super deep discounts to our members on services that were costing them more from someone else. We DON'T make any money on what ever service it is they use and our services are offered on a "By invitation only", basis.

dbindle >>>>> GREAT answers.

By the way, my secured area pop ups work just fine for our members now, wheather they have pop up blockers or not.

Hmmmmmm . . .

That was a long time coming considering the last prior post was 09-11-2003.

I am disappointed with the negative and borderline abusive comments above despite the apparent offensiveness of the request.

Unwanted automatic popups are an incredible annoyance to everyone as evidenced by the heated responses. Attempts to rectify the popup problem have lead to a number of attempted solutions that are not a lot better. Overly aggresive popup blockers can cause significant problems (like the time I paid twice on my credit card because my blocker prevented the confirmation popup from showing)

You are to be commended for implementing a solution that responds to a user-initiated request.

Sorry DC, just when someone who works for an Internet Marketing company (did you go to the website?) asks how to disable/bypass users popup blockers... I mean really... cmon... If they are really willing members why doesnt he just instruct them on how to disable popup blocking for his domain or whatever...

Thank you for restraining yourself from responding to the negative and borderline abusive comments above. DE

He didn't restrain himself, that's why I had to edit his post.

Lucky MikeParent, you get the last word.

To avoid a flame war, I'm closing this thread now.

Oops, Joe - thanks for being on the ball.

But back to my other point. Even is someone is the worst example of bottom-dwelling popup-spawning internet-marketing spamming lowlife, we need to keep to the high road here. I've made my disappointment known about how the responses were phrased and will leave it at that.
