I understand the need for moderation but if you look at the last tread that was closed the off comments came from yourself with the child safe so you have to look at the following comments were made in correspondence to yours. I think there is a difference between censorship and moderation. I never brought up the photos but think that the thread closer did

For the record, I support animgirl's decision to close the thread.

For future reference, questions regarding a moderator's actions should be addressed to the Administrator in a private message.

Thanks

I, too, support the thread closing. I have been on other moderated sites and believe me, and occasional thread closing keeps everyone on their best behavior and focussed on the purpose of the thread.

John and Mike had a fairly civil public spat as flame wars go :arghhh: but I think if the two of them have anything else to say to each other they can PM back and forth and leave the forums to more constructive criticism.

I took it that the closing was due to my comment. I realize that there was some animosicty between them. My comment while could have been read out of text was not being negative. Basically what I was saying is that different countries view things differently so we should not be so quick to judgement. Personally I did not view all pictures but did not find any offensive maybe slightly provocative but things are different in Sweden, Denmark etc. I think I was some where in between. When something is posted you open the doors to criticism. I have put my Dog on my site and someone could say that that is the ugliest dog they have seen. While I may not enjoy that comment well as Mike would say I opened my self to it. I think John is a good guy also and this is not an attempt to stay neutral. I agree with you for wanting to keep the board above insults, bad language and am positive that I have never used any and if so please point it out and I will be the first to apoligise.

A thread that continues a closed thread, reintroducing the issues under discussion, will also be closed. The issues now under discussion here have no relation to forum " Reviews & Showcase ".

If you want to start a general discussion about grounds for closing threads, please do so in the community forum (http://216.180.255.90/developers/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=54). I would welcome a legitimate discussion of groundrules to guide moderators closing threads. Remember, we already have in the guidelines:
> Respect your fellow members. Debating your point is fine, but do not personally insult anybody or you will be warned on the first offense and banned on the second at the discretion of the moderator.

Hello,

The thread closing was a collaboration of the different things being said, and how it was continuing to veer off topic, not directly because of bigdawg's last post but as a portion of it. I saw it evolving into a very personally targeted thread to the thread starter that could have really hurt - and something he never asked for. But the flame was fanned on both sides.

I took out some of the text in bigdawg's last post because it, along with some other posts there; seemed to cross the line of being web related, into making personally-directed statements and on a forum such as this, that could have really started something. I did it for bigdawg's sake too ;) We have to keep focus here, and realize we don't know who is on the other side. Some people can take things wrong and very personally, very easily.

And yes I did bring up the photo topic, it was web related, and I wasn't directly insulting anyone; it was a valid inquiry.

There are some things I don't agree to be right on url's are posted here that go beyond basic suggestions, but this isn't the forum to address those issues in. But if the content does go over the line of what's decent and should be presented here, the mods will remove it.

There's a fine line we have to be careful not to cross - the difference between critiquing a site's contents, and gettting personally involved by downsizing the person themselves and what their site promotes, especially if it's other people.

On the other hand, when you post for critiquing, be prepared to receive it and don't take it personally. And if you do by chance get offended at what someone says here, please don't spurt back and start something. Realize we are here to help you and when you ask for help, you're going to get it - whether it sounds sweet or it's the truth.
