:hellother
As you can see in my profile I've got 6 daughters so not much time for the computer, and not only because I've got to share it :hmmmm:. But I'll enjoy some help and tips. As a matter of fact I'm looking for a nice chat for amateur webmaster moms if anyone knows about one.
I've made a website to show my father's paintings guydebarbot.chez.tiscali.fr . I used a trial version of something I've forgotten about now (had to format C: since  ) but mainly to edit with a little syntax help and make changes simultaneously in all pages. I've got things to add to the site and have to help a friend make his so I'm going to try 1st page, and can't wait for the new release.
Got to get going...

Welcome Webmom.

Good to see that you are finding a little time for yourself! Hope you have many Bathrooms!

Read this thread - http://developers.evrsoft.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1244

It has some details of free photo gallery programs.

I like the paintings on your home site, pity I do not know French.

Day

Thanks for the welcoming and first tips.

Bathrooms ok ;) Laundry less :grrrr:

Daybreak : try clicking on the british flag of my home page ...

Everybody : Gladly accept remarks about my english

I'm not really looking for self-making gallery sites unless I get too many complains about my time loading or design :smack: .
I am going to try protecting my images though thanks to the threads with advice I found ...

Great community !

Webmom - I liked some of the paintings as well.

I second Animgirl's welcome to the forums. You will find lots of help here if you ask interesting challenging questions and have put some effort into it yourself first. And from the look of your site, you have done a great deal of work.

You need some help with your styles and moving stuff into an embedded or external stylsheet. However, you ARE using styles and that is a good thing if we are going to get along ;-).

As far as protecting images - I'm afaid that, although you can prevent right clicking images, nothing can prevent someone from doing an alt+PrintScreen and capturing the image. You can watermark images using either a commercial or a freeware steganography program which embeds hidden data in the pixels.

As for gallery styles - here is something Animgirl and I worked on a while back: http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/d.elliott/yum/filmstrip.html It uses a filmstrip visual metaphor for the gallery - very compact way of presenting a lot of pictures. (If anyone is wondering what the pictures are, they are the cover art from David Webber's Honour Harrington science fiction series. (www.baen.com))

Salut!

Ahh missed that english flag on front page - thanks

I second DE's advise on protection - As soon as you have them on show, they are vulnerable.

You need a second flag to translate into American

English | American
grey | gray
honour | honor
centre | center
metre | meter
encyclopaedia | encylopedia
analogue | analog
cheque | check
draught | draft
mass deception | mass destruction
. . .

Right you are DC, but since you're in Canada ... don't I also need a canadian flag for canadian french ? :D

BTW anybody have advice on multi-lingual site desigining? I tried once with variables for the text parts, but finally found it simpler duplicating the pages and translating them. The problem remaining of course in further updating (as many times as languages  I'm planning german and spanish versions too). That's why I need a software that updates multiple pages at a time!

Hasta luego !

One day those Americans will -

learn to spell correctly
move to decimal
bring in gun laws

Hmmm a pig just flew past my window!!

:D

Webmom - there are some sites out there that allow translations, like http://www.freetranslation.com/ but am not sure how good they are.

I hope I'll be progressing soon thanks to ByteWizard's Tool list (http://dev.home.mindspring.com) I found in a thread.

Had a try, but if I want the whole website translated ... I'll have to pay  . I think I'll stick to good old brain and dictionnary.

Merci à tous.

And that's as far as anyone is going to take it.

That was one site, but am sure there are a few more. Even if you could only get one page translated at a time, should save you some work.

Hope you are not going to stifle a bit of rivalry and dig in the ribs, in the community threads? Hoping we are all mature enough to take some ribbing
