I was just wondering if anyone knew if there is any way to save an html document as *.html and not *.htm or *.shtml, and other choices. I know that it doesn't usually make much of a difference what type of html file it is saved as, but if anyone knows, I would be very grateful for the info.
Thanks.

Maybe I am missing something here. BTW - Welcome to our forum.
Are you talking about saving a file within 1st page?
If so any new file created will allow you to type filename.html where it asks for file name. There is no ability to choose the exact file extension, you have to type it.
If you are opening an existing file, then use Save As.
Hope that helps
If not please provide a more detailed explanation.

Hi AmarantheV!
There are no differences between .htm or .html.
.htm -> old computers (using DOS & WIN 3.1) canīt indicate
endings with 4 or more letters
.html -> Hypertext Markup Language
.shtml -> ssi (Server Side Includes)

The .htm extension was a perversion by Microsoft of the original .html standard file extension. Probably for the reasons Synomous mentioned.
Your software *should* allow you to save your files with any extension you like. If not, you can always rename it yourself.

Mind though : some servers will only accept .htm extension for the default page.
I had named mine index.html and had to change. For the other files the extension didn't matter.

Moral of the story: Your web host provider for the site in question is the final word on this. :-)
