Hi all,

Well finaly it's there, also thanks to you guys and girls, my own page <url>.
It took some time, I was waiting for my negative scanner, now I got it it took a lot of work but it's there. So check it out and tell me what you think. The pictures on the site are still a bit slow, because there 22kb each, I'm working on that. Trouble is my original tif's are 8mb and rescanning for the web is like 7 more hours of work...

But for the rest, let me know!

Works in both IE6 and FB0.7

I like the layout.

Things to look at for the future (only if you are looking to go down this path) -

1) Any browser looking at this will think it is a old site, as no Doc Type has been specified, and therefore views it in quirky mode - should be supported for many years yet!

2) Look to use a stylesheet.

It is up to you. It depends on whether you want to concentrate on your real job or really get into building the web site. At the moment it looks great, and works! If you are interested you can do the html and CSS tutorials at http://www.w3schools.com/

You could use an imaging program to convert them, without having to rescan. It would be a lot quicker.

Just replaced that signature for a text version, the pic was a bit much sorry about that.

But to get on with this reply, thanks a lot for the response!
I've heard of, never really looked at ccs. I just started html like a month ago or something and since this site is very small I decided not to.
Think I never will because I never have the inspiration for a big site.

And browser compatibility was important for this site, I tested in MS IE, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla and on the Mac on Safari and MS IE. I used to master an page before this one and I made it with one of those what you see is what you get progs, well... only in M$ IE you get it.
The more I got involved in computing and worked with Windows, Mac OS 9/X and Linux I understand the importance of browser compatibility. I your page looks bad with certain browsers those users will click away very quickly. And for this page I can't have that.

And the pics, I use photoshop 6 good program, sometimes to good so I'll try getting them smaller with that.

I wonder though if people get the gallery button, that they should click there I mean.

Well I hate to be critical but do not see any reason that Tiffs would be used unless you just like the uncompressed raw file format. Everything I saw could have been represented a jpeg and really no reason for tiff format. Magazine copy another thing!

Those are for semi profesional use, I did some reading on the subject and it tells me don't use jpeg if you need it for publishing and printing at high quality. And because every photo takes 30 min to an hour to edit/perfect I went with the one top quality scan. Not good for file size. jpeg does take it down from 8mb to about 25kb, and they look good online, I'm impressed with that.

But anyway, thats why I use tiff.

i like the pics, really dark and brooding.

the site is a little plain for my tastes, but it loads quick with no problems so nevermind.

i'd just like to see a bit more on the background like a stylised version of one of your pics or something, although that's my personal taste.

I found it confusing - to see the gallery I had to click on the triangle in the corner, to find out more about the artist, I had to click on a link at the bottom of the page...

If you plan to use the site to sell photos, I would suggest uniform links. You don't want people confused about what to click - they might not stay around long enough to buy something.

Is it really that bad, the gallery link I mean? The reason I did it was because at first it was suppossed to be a one button/link index page, different. Guess it can be confusing, but then again if they can't figure out where to click, do I want them to see/buy my art . ;) Think i'll stick with the gallery link and try and find a beter sollution for the other links.

True the background is a bit boring, thats because I try to keep the as simple and basic as possible, except for the triangle thing then... I hate those sites that slap you in the face or are confusing due to to many graphs. I've been visiting many artist and related sites for research and many of those are terrible when it comes to that, they don't fit the screen, have crappy layout/colors are only properly working in m$ ie that kind of stuff. So by presenting a good site I hope to stand out a bit. There are some realy cool artists site though way beter then mine!

No A person with brains will be able to know what you have. You can not be too senitive to critisism and if it is what you want, then go with it. Stay true to yourself and utilize the critiques to improve.

sorry - didn't mean for my comments to annoy you. was just trying to say that from my point of you a bit more colour as a background (only like another one or two) would just jazz up the site and make it a bit more interesting that was all rather than the grey one that you currently have.

sorry if i offended. never meant to.

I'm not anoyed, I very much appreciate the critics/tips/sugestions. Thats why I'm posting this thread. I want to know what people think, good or bad, so really, thanks a lot for all th responce thats what I'm looking for. Guess thats the trouble with forums, its hard to read what people mean, emotionally I mean so that's why I'll use more smileys.

Ok old thread but still current, I see in my stats people are stilll reading the thread and click trough to my site so I might as well post in this one. The forum must still be busy I get quite a few visits from the forum.

I just changed some things of the site, I'm using css now. Works ok and not that hard to learn, only took a few hours of playing arround. I changed the index page, the layout, got rid of the centered text. Put in a table with a text and agenda giving it a more pro look. I am using a 15" monitor, it looks fine on that one, not to sure if it will look ok on a bigger monitor. The table might get too steched... I still want to change the gallery layout, not sure how yet (any ideas?) and handle the bottom page links differently instead of popups now.

O yeah, handy if you also want to start css, I got most the info of http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/Guide/Style

So let me know what you think, and does it work on y'r machine???

The website displayed just fine on my screen.

Only one suggestion: here in the United States, the section you call "Gallery", we would call "Exhibitions".

Hi, thanks a lot for the replys, good the site works on other machines than my own. I checked it at work on a mac too and it look fine there also.

The gallery sure needs some work, something I need to think over though. I'll try some stuff as Mr Stilts suggested. I do think I'll end up getting a proffesional designer making my site, if my photography business picks up I'll be able to affort it i hope. It's quite difficult getting it just right...

So thanks again and if any more people have some tips, I would love to hear them, especially that sweed at 217.210.122.169 refreshing for like 50 times, he must have really liked the site. Or is it some lame atempt at a DOS attack?
