hey everybody! i've just signed up and i've got a question that seems sort of dumb to me but you people seem cheerful enough so here we go: i've been working on my site for about a year now and all my images have been drawn by hand then edited on Photo Shop which can sometimes take hours and still can look kind of edgy and unprofessional so this is the question: how do people get such brilliant images?, is there a software?
well thanks for your time

When my pictures were saved in .JPG, the same thing happened with me, and from experience I can tell you this: try saving it in 256-color bitmap; they edges will smooth out and the pictures'll look great. Of course, I'm pretty new at this myself, and I haven't tried the 32-bit bitmap yet, but since 256 was working, I stuck with it :D .

Bad edges on images can be from two different sources - ironically one is caused by trying to solve the other!
Since our screens are composed of pixels in rows, only perfectly horizontal or vertical lines are "perfect" all others have rastering or the jaggies or aliasing (which is the technical term). This makes edges look rough. ANTI-aliasing makes a blend between foreground and background pixels so there is a smoother appearance. This works well for images that are placed with their own backgrounds. However, frequently we do images with transparent backgrounds. Unless the anti-aliased image is displayed against a background that is the same color as it was created with, you will get a fringe of the intermediate colour around the image. So if you intend to have a transparent background, do your anti-aliasing against a background close to the color of your intended background. If you don't know the colour of the eventual background, it is better to NOT anti-alias and live with the jaggies rather than the fringing.
