Me and DCElliot (and others) have been digging out of the Snowstorm of the Century that hit us Wednesday night. Over 90cm (3 feet) of snow fell in about a 24-36 hour period. Combined with 90-100km/h (60 mph) gusting winds, it made for *huge* drifts. 5 foot drifts were the norm, and my parents reported a 15 foot one near their house.

PS: DC How you doing?!

Now that's amazing.
I've never seen so much snow at once.

DCE was in Toronto, stranded. Finally took the train back getting in two days later than expected. Then I had to get a taxi out to the airport to retrieve my car from a snowdrift. It was pretty incredible. Some more pics here (http://novascotia.cbc.ca/features/winterstorm/).

How could you open the door and get out of the house?

Luckily external doors open inwards. Hopefully you have not left your shovel on your step where it would get buried :-)
By the time I got down my front steps to the driveway, it was shoulder high...

This is what I saw when I opened my door Thursday night (near the end of the snowfall)...

I am an idiot but even though they do open inwards, wouldn't the snow go into your house and then melt? I Wish i had that much snow where i live because this winter the most snow i got at once was like 2 feet. I liike snow because then school is deleyed or cancled and i have more time to do my homework.

Funny, at the same time, there was a terrible storm on the west coast as well. See it here (http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/d.elliott/damage.html).

The only time I even get something that looks like snow, is if we have a hail storm and uh no way do you want to be out in that. Once every 5-10 years, but usually in small amounts, as large as cricket balls - put a hole right through roofs. Normally as big as your finger nail.
Hey DC - did not realise it was Halifax you came from. What is the population around about - small or large. The reason I ask, if small, maybe you know a guy called Peter Hubbard.

Halifax is a bit over 300,000 now, I believe although the housing market is red hot and the population is increasing steadily. Mike Parent and I recently discovered we live only a few kilometres apart.
As for your Peter Hubbard, no, I don't know him. However, my daughter is currently in Australia, have you seen her? :p

lol
The impression I had was it was a lot lot smaller than 300,000.
Hope you daughter is having a good time here, and not getting hit by all those Kangaroos jumping down all of our streets :D
