Everyone has their pet peives about web pages, whats yours?

If I listed them all the page would take an hour to load. :p

But one of the main ones that I see way too much is a stupid large logo image taking up about 1\3rd of the screen. And many sites do it too.

ya thats deffinantly a bummer. My biggest peive is under construction sites...if you spend time on making the underconstruction page, then why not post a litited version of the upcoming site (or not post at all until your done); and if you spend no time on the underconstruction page than it a poor misrepresentation of your site and isn't informational...god I have under construction pages

1st) Flash that takes 5 minutes to load on DSL

2nd) unneeded (most of them) cookies

3rd) pop-(anywhere's) ads (thank the lord for Mozilla)

Popups/Cookies/ monster_banner_ads/ Poorly_design_website/ Websites_that_steal_focus/ Images_that_are_large/Poor_navigation/ Porn_Links/ Links_to_no_place_I_would_not_go_to "In the first place"/ etc.

I can deal with the bad colors, acceptance to that is just not important anymore.

And code snippers that snag without leaving my name in the code.

Flash ad layer that you can't close until it is finished to play.

Popups.

Broken links.

"This website is optimized for Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher".

"Don't click here".

I hate all of the Flash ads just blinking or even spreading 'cross the major part of the screen, freezing up my Internet viewer until they're done  and saying nothing but "Click me for more info"...

I hate pop-ups, which work with any kind of client-side script to calculate their size according to the content - resulting in awfull loss of my expensive time (dial-up connection)

I hate websites with strange/crazy colors causing bilious attack and destroing ones eyes!!!

I hate... do I have to work it all out here? :D

Yeah have to agree on that the weird looking flash intro. That just sit there and the whole time you sit there and wait. Then wondering why the damn thing took so long loading when all they have is a mere looking text like swish thing that goes on?

Man I hate that...
I'd like to say this message thread rocks!! I can complain about pretty much all of this stuff.

LOL :D

One thing I hate the most is websites that have no reason. Sites that people put things on that don't say anything that anyone wants to here like this site: http://user1.7host.com/sadiablo. It's just a waste of space that could be used for something good.

What I hate most of all is when they want to change your cursor... I HATE it.

And those sites that have a message trailing the cursor... EVIL!

pop-ups.

Pop-ups of any kind and pop-ups of all kinds, and that most definately includes those long drawn out flash overlays that practically play a short feature length film before they're done with you.

If I didn't didn't expressly open it, I don't want to see it.

-Ads that follow you as you scroll down the page and ads that overlap everything until you click on it.

-Unskippable flash intros.

-Websites that are not content with either popups or large banner ads, but rather prefer to bombard you with both.

-5 second button mouseOver sounds on a large TOC.

-Animated backgrounds.

-Flashing ads.

-Pages that are fixed at a 640 width (probably made with FrontPage)

-Popup messages and alert sounds when you right click.

-Bitmap images.

-<blink>

-Deceptive ads that look like search windows and forms, but are actually links.

-Overuse of 'kewl' words such as biz and e-anything.

Those stupid javascript cursers that have words, letters or numbers spiraling all around your curser.

And as pop-ups go(which I hate anyway), the detestable ones that position the window such that the "X" is hidden off the corner of your browser to keep you from making one simple click to close it.

.wav files that you can't turn off.

Why do people build websites with annoying features anyway? Do they suppose that their content is so irresistable that you will return inspite of the nonsense.

They do it because they think it is cool.

1. Pop-ups.
2. Embedded audio.
3. Dosens of animated GIFs on one page.
4. Right-click blocking.
5. Use of images to display text or symbols.
6. Use of tables for layout - spare my bandwidth!
7. Best viewed with IE - phlease! It's the worst browser out there.
8. Site trying to install some crap (like a cursor).
9. Endless non-stop JavaScript alerts.
10. Having a huge immage that loads up in small chunks like mosaic - utter table idiocy.
11. "Your browser is not sufficient enough to browse this site, please get IE and then come back."
12. Page having dosens hundreds of links on it (portal sites).
13. E-Crap.
14. Having utter corporate public relations bull**** written on it, after reading which you become dumber.
15. Unnessesary use of Java applets (navigation menu done in Java? Just use JavaScript damn it!)
16. Serverside user input validation.
17. Use of JPEG for screenshots or other non-photo images.
18. Fixed font sizes that are unreadable in high resolutions.
19. Broken pages.
20. Bad HTML.

- Anything that flashes

- Sites that have too many images compounded with people who do not know the difference between BMP/JPG/GIF

- One page that takes forever to load because it should be 23 pages broken into LOGICAL sub-pages

- Pages that take forever to load for ANY reason
