When making a web site, what do you beleive the priority should be?

Useability, content, looks

It's useless having good content if people can't get to it.

1. If the website doesn't look good, and there are many of the same that do, whats to get people to look at your content? (And if no one looks at it, whats the point?)

2. Your on a graphical web browser; why?

Just some things to thing about...

Gimme any good content - I won't regret worse graphics!

Usability? - Also simple navigation can do any website usable...

My suggestion:
1/ think of the content! Graphics can particulary attract the potential visitor but finding NOTHING will make him go away and never come back...

2/ do simple navigational websites - too much links leadeng one through another is a BIG MESS making the visotor confused and dissappointed...and, of course, hurrying up to leave...

My TOP-CHART:
Content, usability and finally the graphics...

I said useability looks content as a general observation. I think that the most frustrating thing about "bad" sites, or what makes me think of them as "bad" is the inability to interact with them quickly and intuitively. This is often linked with looks since the useability is often determined by the visual cues in the interface. I'm not talking eye-candy here folks, just want to have identifiable features to interact with. Finally, if I can interact with the site I can get at the content - if it is good I may be back. If I can't get at it easily, then I'm outta there before you can say [Backspace]

Usability, Content then Looks.

Don't go far, just take this forum for example. You come here again and again and spend hours on here why? Because it's usable. Most of content here is repetitive rubbish. It's the usability that turns this place into a chat and makes you come back. Content is on the second place. There are plenty of forums on all kinds of dumb topics, but you came to this one in the first place because it contained some valuable information about 1st Page, or web design. And looks come last. Personally I think the look of this forum sux big time and it could be styled much better. But it is usable and does give insight in what's happening with 1st Page, so it doesn't matter.

Usability - makes user come back again and again.
Content - attracts user in the first place.
Looks - just for comfort and nothing more.

Depends on the intent of the site.

- If I am looking for sites that are knowledge-base sites, I want content & usability. I don't care what it looks like if I can find the info I want.

- If you are trying to sell something to your viewer. You better make looks #1. One quick look at your site is all you have to grab 'em before they move to the next site in the search list.

- If you are trying to appeal to a bunch of geeks (where would that be?), you better make functionality (usability) at the top.

Bottom line.... a good site has a good balance of all three as good as the web site builder can make from his/her experience.
