I've been using 1stPage for a long, LONG, time, and I think its one the best editors out there. I understand you are like the rest of us and you are busy most of the time and that 1stPage is one of your spare projects. You have a growing community of people who love this product. I think it would be a wonderful idea to take your upcoming version and just open source the thing. Start a development site and have a bunch of people collaborate on it. Just a suggestion.

Ben, you make an excellent point and many would like to see it, however, Admin has stated that the third party components make the software unavailable to opensource. I have noticed that many editors that use these components are not opensource so you kinda see the dilema. Good thoughts though.
You also have to see yourself in his shoes also....would you want to make one of the best editors opensource if you have spend lots of time and money on your creation? If I was admin, I think I would loose identify with the product if its was opensource. My personal feelings, I would love to see it hit opensource and see what others might add to improve it.

Why not either remove those components and others write similar ones that are open source, or some like minded people here can start their own editor that would equal 1st Page.

Tarmithius- I agree, that could be an option to remove components. An aging editor can seek quick improvements. It would also spawn other ideas that would keep a good competition up I think.

Well, I just had to post something about the myth of Dreamweaver MX 2004. It does produce some clean code and if you learn how to use it, its the best editor around. It does surpass all editors even GoLive IMO. There is so much that many over look about Macromedia products. Don't get me wrong. I have GoLive, Dreamweaver, First Page and a couple others. I enjoy seeing what all offer. However, Dreamweaver is the only one that previews CSS in real time. I can edit CSS externally within the same page, ie edits happen in real time to external sheets. I like to quickly layout a page in design mode and then customize it purely in the editor mode. However, I still go back to Dreamweaver every time I want to create a professional page. 1st page is great, however the bugs that are not being updated is what many do not like. Many editors are not opensource that are really good.
But one has to think about the an HTML editor does vs. hard coding as many talk. IMO hard coding is using no helper programs and just using something like notepad and creating type. The next step is HTML editors that enter information in for you. The last is WYSIWYG editors. As for opensource, I wish there are more editors out there that would give Dreamweaver a run. When you think about the popularity of 1st page and the development, you have to wonder. Why not sell the old and use the money to develop a brand new one? Sorry about the off topic a bit. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and all, but IMO Dreamweaver always gets a bad rap. So I had to stick up for it (no dont have stock in Macromedia :)) As far as what Mr Stilts states, I somewhat agree (besides the DW comments :)) persectives are differeent.

No problems here, I merely wanted to point out to other readers here that 1st page is only a solution each person needs to work with what is best for them which you have done. I do everything myself and don't have a full programming staff that some of the bigger boys do. I wish I did but I can't afford them either. :) I I did not mean any offense to you Stilts. For some reason I just started to rant where it was not needed. It just seems so many posters on forums knock a products cuz it requires some learning and not to say you said anything that dictates you hated the product.
I have seen some of the best sites just using the most simple and free tools so don't get me wrong here, I have used many free ones for lots of ideas. I just wish 1st page had more of them :). That is what my post was supposed to reflect that those tools are found in other editors. I merely wanted to also state that is 1st page was made into an os project, that it might get those tools. However the Big boys might try and prevent that.
Regards to anyone offenses and misconceptions of my posts.

Stilts, I agree :) with you. Thanks for the avatar comment too, I have about 5 goat pics to switch too, I might just have to animate them LOL. I was gonna add a new signature (Have you loved your goat lately? ) as a side joke, but thought some might take it too seriously and decided against it. hehe.
DE...LOL...You know, there is not a lot of people that realize there area sugarbeets in NE, bravo....its only in the Panhandle, but when I used to live there, the amount of beet piles is astonishing to look at. :)
Im thinking that for an equal trade, I might just have to need two double mocha frappachino lattes :)

I registered on this site a year or so back, but lost my userid and pw... had to start over.
I've been using FP2K almost since it was first released, and every six months or so I check the site to see if the promised new release has been released.
I read the latest post (2003/4 preview) and it shows great improvement in an already great product, but... when is it coming? I do quite a bit of web page development, maintenance, and experimentation. Also into CSS and JScripting with HTML and XHTML, and I'd really like use the updated features, especially an improved FTP engine since the current version does not work with WinXP. Is there any definitive news?
