I'm having a problem getting 2 good-sized images to blend together side-by-side into a centerfold. No, it's not a nude picture, it's an ad for a drag racing program from 1967. I know there's a way to do this, as my son did this before. However, he is not available and that's why I'm here. I'd appreciate an answer ASAP.

I'm guessing you want to learn about layer blending. (http://www.carlvolk.com/photoshop15.htm) Without knowing the kinds of images or any real details, it's hard to know which blend modes, layer order or other techniques might be required. You'll have to figure that out.

Also, if you have that old file, you can open it an attempt to learn what your son did -- provided a similar technique is what's needed. That assumption may not be correct, you may need some other technique (like clone brushing). However, layers provide the easiest starting point to try.

I just want to put 2 images side-by-side. I just want the viewers to see this as it was originally. I know there's a way. If I could figure it out, I wouldn't be asking here. Anyone?

"put 2 images side-by-side."

To put the images together, without blending, is simple. Figure out the height and combined width of both images together. Create a new image with the dimensions which will accomodate both images side-by-side. Then "select all" for each of your starting images, copy to the clipboard, then paste into your larger joint image. You can paste all on one layer, but pasting to individual layers offers the most control.

Again, this assumes some familiarity with the clipboard, but it is one of the most elementary first skills learned.

As I said, my son did this before. What is a "clipboard?" I am more lost now, than I was before. If I attach the page, would that help?

clipboard is a windows term meaning to save a file temporaily before pasting it

so you have two images and you want to place them on a website side by side...
what are the two dimensions? is there text on the site? Perhaps a link to help if you have something up already

I am going to attach the page and images and maybe someone can help here.

I'm unable to attach anything. There must be a simple explanation.

how many pixels wide are both images?

Terminator1138

have you tried placing the first image centered and then placing the other image code right after, this can be done if you pixels are not beyone the main frame width of your site. You could resize both of them also to make it work.
You could also create a table with one row and two columns without any padding or cell padding etc. then place one image on the first column and the second image on the next same deal here, you must not be outside of your main target browser width.

1200 pixels and I don't mind the extra width, because that page is only for the use of the centerfold and nothing else. The remainder of the program is on http://www.sundayniagara.com/forum/nascar.php . That centerfold page will be accessible by a link.

Nobody, but you, can see the images you posted. Why? You pointed to the URL on your hard drive, not your web server.

img src="file:///C|/Documents and Settings/Mark/My Documents/My Webs/Sunday Niagara/images/nascar_center_left.jpg"

What is the correct URL for your web images? You'll have to know that. Were the images upoloaded (FTP) to your web server, not just your hard drive? You'll have to tell us.

Finally, those images will rarely be seen side-by-side by most visitors to your site. Why? Because they are 600 pixels wide and most people have 800 or 1024 width screens. You need to "shrink" or scale the images -- if you want anyone to see them side-by-side without side scrolling (irritating for most).

Translation: Get someone to do this for you. Why? You'll need at least three kinds of tutorials ....for photoshop or imaging software (Which it is not clear you even have). ....For HTML instruction and layout. ....For basic site maintenance (an images directory on your server and FTP).

If speed is of the essence, have someone else do this. Preferably someone you can watch as they get the images to the server from your hard drive.

I have fixed that. It shows like that on Firefox and I've cleared the cache several times. However, it shows just fine on IE.

I don't know why, but the full-width deal worked before.

Well I'm using Firefox and still shows..I even forced refresh...aka control r and nothing.....make sure you have uploaded the correct file. D856C is right, the larger image width will give many users pain if they have to scroll. So where are you at now...? Did you get the images to only show on IE and the way you liked or?

The coding is correct, but for some reason it doesn't appear that way in Firefox. On IE, the images show, but on top od each other.

what link do you have for the above comment..the php or html?

Terminator1138

In IE the images do not show up! I get red x's on them...

<img src="file:///C|/Documents and Settings/Mark/My Documents/My Webs/Sunday Niagara/images/nascar_center_left.jpg" width="600" height="787" alt="" border="0"><img src="file:///C|/Documents and Settings/Mark/My Documents/My Webs/Sunday Niagara/images/nascar_center_right.jpg" width="600" height="765" alt="" border="0">

You have to change your src files...I opened it up for the first time....I not sure why you are seeing them on top cuz there is only images and not sure if IE is forcing them to display differently. Also no doctype so IE might display in quirks mode. You might want to wrap the images in div tags and try to center them that way

Again, I have removed ///C|/Documents and Settings/Mark/My Documents/My Webs/Sunday Niagara/ from both images and they work just fine here in Miami on IE, which I don't normally use. Must be a glitch in the web somewhere.
Mark

<img src="images/nascar_center_left.jpg" width="600" height="787" alt="" border="0"><img src="images/nascar_center_right.jpg" width="600" height="765" alt="" border="0">

It still shows the old way in IE, I can't figure out why.

what ftp software do you use?

SundayNiagara

Now it's working in Firefox and IE with the correct coding. I use WS-ftp .

Terminator1138
08-09-2005, 12:53 PM
what did you do? I use ws ftp pro and never had an issue so far.

try taking out the defined height and width and see what happens..

I just re-uploaded the page. Can you do a table?

what do you mean a request or question?
Did you try removing the height and width attributres?

Terminator1138
08-09-2005, 01:10 PM
I see you have tried that, maybe surround the two images in a div tag and then center the div

SundayNiagara
08-09-2005, 01:11 PM
They still show one above the other, even after I removed the dimensions. I know I'm being a pain, but this has worked before. Can you please make a table?
Mark

Terminator1138
08-09-2005, 01:25 PM
<table width="100%" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" summary="">
<tr>
<td><img src="images/imagename.jpg" border="0" alt="" align="top"></td>
<td><img src="images/imagename.jpg" border="0" alt="" align="top"></td>
</tr>
</table>

Perhaps try that....The table is set to 100 percent of width but centered so really will not show up centered depending on images...you might see space on them also not sure just depends.

Terminator1138
08-09-2005, 01:27 PM
U can also set the table to pixel width, ...but any case there is your table structure...simple one one row and two columns

Actually I think all you need to do really is align....valign or something similar...

SundayNiagara
08-09-2005, 01:35 PM
Ok thanks, that works, I just have to re-size the right image slightly. You've always been very helpful. Hopefully, the new First Page will help even more.

they are a bit misaligned...
align it to the top and it should match up depending on how the images was obtained or scanned.

SundayNiagara
08-09-2005, 01:43 PM
It's up on the web now and working as I thought it could. The image size I can fix. Thank you for all your help.
Mark

Errr one step ahead :) valign should correct the alignment issue perhaps

SundayNiagara
08-09-2005, 01:49 PM
Where do I put that?

Terminator1138
08-09-2005, 01:51 PM
i believe on the td of the table...you can also set the image to align=top also

updated: It looks like the other right image is actually a bit smaller when it was scanned...you will have to set height equal to that of the first and should work

SundayNiagara
08-09-2005, 02:13 PM
I have did some slight re-sizing and doubt I'll be able to get better than that. Thanks again.
