This new version has terrible lags while I type. I've tried to "Disable Design View" in the settings but that hasn't helped. It's not my PC as I am running a P4 with 512megs of RAM and an accelerated graphics card. I am confident that my PC should be able to handle running a text editor.

Why is FP so slow? Is there a remedy or is it better to just revert to the older version which seems more stable anyhow?

I tried the new version but also found it too slow and crash prone to use for production work.

I have switched back to FP2K until they get the new version working as well as the old. At that time I will send in my registration fee to help support continued development. Of course, I probably would have already sent something in but there doesn't seem to BE any place to actually send in even a donation yet.

Same thing happened to me. EXTREMELY annoying, as every time I type a few characters, I have to wait for it, about 1 second per character, to catch up as it refreshes the editing window. I have a 2 GHz AMD, 1.5 GB RAM, and a GeForce 6800GT video card, and other people on this forum reporting the same problem seem to have more or less similar systems. And anyway, text editing is hardly a system-taxing activity, or shouldn't be anyway.

I tried turning my off Anisotropic Filtering and Antialiasing (which I have forced On instead of Application Controlled), and thought that fixed it, because it seemed to speed up for a minute and work normally. Some things I type, though, are still updated very slowly. I'm not running the dual-pane edit/preview, tried turning off Tag Insight and Auto-completion, even tried turning off Clear Type in the Windows desktop properties, which made everything look ugly and still didn't fix it. It seems to type just fine when I'm not inside a tag, or when the text is black (not colored with syntax highlighting), but not always. Hard to pin it down. Be nice to see a fix for this, as it makes the program basically unusable for anything other than tinkering.

Chris_TC's post in that thread hits the nail on the head, I'm able to duplicate his results as well:

And yet another finding: The delay only occurs as long as I type within a start and an end tag and I'm typing with the beam [cursor] directly next to the end tag.

My system specs are: AMD Athlon XP 2700+, 1.5 GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 6800GT video card w/ 256 MB RAM running ForceWare driver v.81.95, Windows XP Pro sp2, DirectX 9.0c. Further info or DXDiag results, etc., available if necessary.

I also have an extremely ancient laptop (P2 233 MHz, 128 MB RAM) that runs Windows XP (barely) and is also slow to type, but seems to happen all the time, not just when I'm in a tag. :-D I can see the text flicker as it refreshes the editing window after each keystroke. Now, I know the thing is slow, it's a minimum-system-requirements XP box after all, but even still, 1st Page 2000 ran just fine, and other text editing programs (even relatively advanced ones like OpenOffice) run well, once they load. It also has XP Pro sp2, but only a 2 MB laptop video card.

It's possible FP2k6 will never run well on the laptop, which I accept, but hopefully the desktop will become usable soon. In the mean time, making sure the cursor is not next to the end tag is a workaround.

I think most people are experiencing these, too. I've had the same problem somewhat and I have both design view and split-screen preview turned off.

This is on a Pentium M 1.7 at 512 MB RAM running WinXP home.
