The lag occurs in source view for me and I would think that most of the people using FP are typing in source view as well.

I to am having trouble with typing speed in source mode. It lags every time I type between tags, however ir you place your closing tag on the next line it does not lag at all???

Any suggestions

right.... between tags and immediately before the closing tag no matter where it is... will cause lag it seems. If you put the closing tag on the next line, you are essentially placing space between the cursor and the closing tag.

So:
1. don't type with the cursor pushing the closin tag in the space right before the closing tag.
2. There will always seem to be lag inside a tag when typing after the space which is after the tag name.

I wrote this post yesterday which will eloborate with more detail of what I just said.

This bug makes the program unusable for me. Unbelievable that Evrsoft spent that much time on it fixing bugs, and something this major made it through the final cut... AND they want to charge 60 bucks for the 'professional' version.

I even made a small movie of how it runs on my laptop:

nice movie...It clearly shows it in your case that its not entering as fast as you can type. What comp specs do you have or is there other processes running that is slowing it down also?

No processes outside of system critical ones, 2.0 GHZ Pentium 4; 512MB of RAM... All active options (that I know of) turned off.. including the auto-tag complete.

On my desktop it is still laggy, but not nearly as slow (Athlon 64 3500+)... but slow enough to be aggravating to the point where I've uninstalled the program and vowed to never go back to it again..

On a sidenote, I can't find a feature similar to 2000's LiveSpell... Does it exist in 2006? If not that makes the program doubly unusable.

I am having the same problem. Typing is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW...
That is way too big of a SNAFU to pay $60 for... now if I want to keep using it, I have the damn nag windows. I am going back to 1st Page 2000. Too bad, this really had promise, too.

I didn't find it to be that bad a bug. I click on the <p> tag, for example. Your cursor is in the tag, hit the space bar then take your cursor one space backwards and it's fixed. All you have to do is keep a space between your cursor and the end tag. You can also type your paragraph, highlight and click the <p> tag, or pop the closing tag down to the next line and type. It isn't as perfect as it should be, but I have paid more for things with worse bugs (like having to do strange things {shift and return} to get a new line in Dreamweaver for instance).

I fixed the typing speed problem by turning off two features that annoyed me anyway, the tag insight and tag auto-complete. It seems like it the the auto-complete that puts it into typing crawl mode.

It's a performance issue, not a bug. Tag auto-complete can be very handy, so it's a balancing act.

I find it hard to believe that the reason it takes so long for text to appear on my screen is because my computer is too slow.

I have been using FP2K for several years now and have loved it. I just downloaded the latest version of 2006. I love it too, but also have the problem with the typing speed. However, there is another problem. I think this program has a "memory leak". I notice that as long as it is open, regardless of usage, the program quickly becomes the highest resource eating program on my PC, and the amount of memory it uses grows exponentially, thus creating a problem for me using my PC. It will cause the PC to crash eventually. So, I am thinking that the slow typing speed and the memory leak may be related. Does anyone else have this problem. Feel free to email me (rsusselj@optonline.net).

I have just installed FP2006 on this machine after using FP2000 (which I really liked) for some time, and was annoyed to find this problem.

It only occurs within tags, not outside them, and I have Tag Insight/Tag Auto Complete both off. The idea of entering a space before the closing tag etc. as suggested above is just plain daft. Mine is so slow as to make using the system pointless; the problem is, when this version first came out, and I downloaded it, it did not have this problem, so I was really surprised to find it here.

There really does have to be a fix for this, as it makes the product really cr*p, and I have always recommended FP2000 in the past.

It is not the performance of my machine, as no other software is this bad.

Now to find a version of FP2000 that I can install, and all will be OK.
