You have to have access to ftp space to publish.
I am on AOL, and they give me 12 mb. free. I transfer
all of my images to my ftp space there, and HAD/HAVE
built the pages with their program, Easy Designer.
Am working feverishly with 1st page now, and will
now use a different server to publish. I am going
to go with "Pair.net" who will charge me anywhere
between 9.00 and 30.00 bucks a month, for their
service. Check out different companies for what works
best for you. I have lots of friends who love "Godaddy.com"
After you buy a "dot.com" name, you also buy the space at
names like above, and they send you info on how to
upload your pages to them.
As for the other questions, the others here know much
more than me and will most likely come to your rescue.

Polly is right, and I'm waiting to see her site. But she didn't recomend any programs. If you don't have 1st Page, get it. You can do most every thing with edit features, and also FTP. FTP is what you will use to up and down load your files at your site. FTP is not a normal part of an html editor, and you usually have to put out extra bucks to get it. The best part of 1st Page is that it is FREE. and I love freeeeeee.
Happy Webing

I've been using 1st Page for almost a year now. I've never been able to get the FTP portion to work. Everytime I try it gives me the message, "1st Transfer cannot be found. Make sure 1st Transfer is installed on this computer. You can download 1st Transfer completely free from EvrSoft.
Go. http://www.evrsoft.com/1stpage/modules/
I've followed the link but haven't found the modules.
What am I doing wrong?
Austin
But the 1st Transfer is there,I cant't see what's wrong.

I got it download and installed in the same folder as the 1stpage exe prog.
I configured the FTP info just like is have it on my other FTP prog. but it's only giving me the hour glass. It seems to be having trouble finding my site.
LOL, I may need to go to bed and try this again in the AM.
Thank you, Josh for replying.

Ok I got it to work now. After I setup the remote server I had to exit out of the program and restart it. My zonealarmpro wouldn't let 1st Transfer talk to the net.
I sleep now.

At work, where I am designing a private web site using database ASP, I recommend CuteFTP (also CuteMAP for mapping images) very highly. It is worth it! Just go to google and type in cuteftp to find the site. You can download it for a free trial.
I use 1stPage to create everything - works gre-e-e-eat!

CuteFTP is EVIL! and its share/nag ware.
Get SmartFTP (http://www.smartftp.com/) instead. It yearns to be Windows XP, and its free!

http://www.angelfire.com is much better than AOL in all aspects.
20 megs free, and a banner ad at the top, instead of a frame. More reliable too...
There's a lot more out there, but that's what I use... Currently paying $5 a month for no banner ads and 50 megs w/ 5 Gigs of transfer per month. No file size limit (except 50 megs, of course :p).

Well there are many ways to post ur stuff from 1st page and because im only 11 im quite to poor to pay for hosting so i looked aroun and i found www.freewebs.com and they give you 100mb chat rooms, forums,no banners or pop ups and its free and the main feature about it is that they have an online htm editor so u can copy the code from fist page and pste it onto there editor and click save and its automatically uploaded to whatever pages you were editing.

One word of caution on the "freebie" web bandwidth though,
read the fine print. I have read where some of them will allow
you the free space, but then take your name. You have to buy it back if you try to switch!
Always read the fine print! ;)
(And I wasn't trying to "sell" AOL, only used as example because I have AOL and know how to manipulate the ftp space there)

If you are able to reach this forum you have an account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP). You probably have an email account with this ISP.
Most email accounts also include some web space for a "personal" web site. Take a quick look at this web site (http://dev.home.mindspring.com) . This is a web site created on my personal space at Mindspring. I simply created an alias of my email address (they allow me 8) and I used the alias of "dev" to create this web site. Check the home page for your ISP and see what they offer. No banners, ads, etc. Stay away from these "free" web spaces.
As far as loading your web code to the site, I prefer wsFTP. I keep hearing how good SmartFTP is, I had a look but for my money wsFTP is still better (both are FREE).
