I not quite sure how it happened but I must have mass moved all threads to one area and I'm attempting to fix it. I notified admin and DCElliott on the issue.
Not quite sure like stated how it happened and its my fault and I do apologize to all members for the inconvience...:smack:
If they feel they want to remove me as moderator, then I will step down and directly apologize to them. Perhaps its good also to archive the old and start some fresh areas of the board...

If they feel they want to remove me as moderator...
Certainly not, it was a mistake, nothing more.
As to starting afresh, I would agree with that, I might even say start with a fresh install of VB (there is a floating problem on this forum which occurs in the member list causing 403's to continually appear for a while).

Thanks Alex, I'm working with each thread to move back to correct areas, but alast it taking forever.....I appreciate your forgiveness....no one comes down on me harder than myself and what I did is just making me sick and thus hope DC or Admin can shut down board and fix my errors......

As you can tell, this forum has been hit with tons of spam. Since I cannot IP ban, the same losers are coming back and thus only can Admin do anything. I've tried contacting him without an answer.
So all I can do at this point is apologize for the spam. In the last week or two, I have removed so much spam that its hard to find all the junk in the moved and deleted threads.

Yes, this is happening quite a lot at the moment. We have had a few messages that seem to be advertising software with a built-in databases of forums, and anyone can download these things and start spamming thousands of forums at a click.
I know it's not possible without Admin, but the best way I can think of to prevent things like this is to set up something non-standard either when registering or when posting (like a custom captcha) which should prevent the spammers from posting to the forum for a while.
As to deleting these spam threads, I think if Admin can't be bothered to fix things, then I don't see why you should suffer because of it. Get back to your job, this forum deserves what it gets if the owner is too lazy to stop these things.

Getting past the registration isn't too big a problem, just download the email, then a bit of regex to pull the password out. In the days of hotmail/gmail etc, it's easy to get a disposable email for these purposes.
They are probably using proxies, or at least if they aren't before you IP ban them, they will be afterwards. Banning by IP does remarkably little when the person you're shutting out knows a bit about the Internet.
Anyways, as I said, the best thing I can think of is more non-standard captcha's and other such bot catching techniques not distributed with VB/IPB/phpBB, they wont want to work out a way to crack your captcha when they have thousands of other boards they can spam more easily.

I just sent an email to DCE. I'm not sure it will do any good but he did answer me once before, maybe he will this time too.
We can only hope.
BTW, I sent you two PMs, feel free to delete them. I was simply calling to your attention what you already know about. :(

I just realized why so many of the topics were in the wrong area! Duh!
I guess I can read but not comprehend!
I'll be helping you move some of those misplaced topics.

Thanks to DE for making more moderators...it helps out greatly. However what about IP banning?
Now that help is here I have a renewed vigor :)

Heh - Spock stuck a sharp stick in the sleeping giant and he lumbered awake, smiting spammers to the left of him, spammers to the right of him. Oops, wrong fairy tale. Anyhow, we'll see how she goes. If someone is interested in moderating a particular forum, or has previous experience as a moderator and feels they could handle a supermoderator role, please contact me through the forum mail.

... This is my last post but I may or may not peek in from time to time...
I can understand your frustration. I have a feeling I may soon join in your chosen option. I have my own website and classes I need to maintain as well as several other fora where I help out and this one is just too frustrating. If I had some way to actually change things I would but with the limited power and authority available it's impossible.
I'm not sure I would be able to change things for the better even if I had the power to do so, but at least then I would know.
I will make sure your website is in my bookmarks so I don't lose touch and would appreciate you doing the same with mine. Wish you well in your current and future endeavors.

Thanks Spock :), I'm really getting into 3d/cgi more and more and trying to bridge the design into more graphic websites to meet the need of the fantasy community in terms of realism etc. Its been fun so far and the community is great also.
The investment I wish I did not have to take but really I found I need to go back to my roots and update a lot of things. My client base grows slowly but steadily and I just want to wish everyone here great success. Also trying to learn more about php and creating dynamic content...slow process also.
Develop The Web has a great history and I want to make sure it never goes down the hill :)...I look forward to anyone wanting to visit and help out anyone else by visiting my homepage. :)

Just to update those who still come here....
Yep you guessed it, the forum has changed, not sure why or how just yet and no word from Admin other than online a few days ago. In fact he un-did all DCE's work and consolidated forums into one.
Also mods can actually use inline editing which helps in spam and moderating. Of which quick select of threads that were misplaced is quicker than before.
I'm not sure what the future holds here. There, I'm guessing, is not support for version 2000 of which from the looks of it, admin has removed all 2000 only forums of which DCE made for us so we can stop asking what version etc. There is no CSS, graphics forum etc and now all into one general page design forum. Hmm and what forums are left, like php etc really are not geared for this site as its more advanced stuff from those looking for an editor.
