View Full Version : Crash on tab switching to a tab with selected text

The crash occurs when one switches to a different file tab, possibly after not having touched the application for a while, when the file to which one is switching has some text selected. It also occurs when some text is selected when one attempts to close the file.

The application becomes mostly unresponsive: it will not refresh its image on the screen, and one cannot edit any of the text or operate the menus. Usually any action yields an error as follows:

"File no longer exists. It has either been removed, moved or its filename has changed."

This also appears whenever the application receives the focus.

Operating the close button does yield a query whether to save unsaved documents, but saving them results in a blank file.

Incidentally, I also get the "crash on exit" bug sometimes too.

I have already tried a clean install and I use the task manager a lot.

Hi,

I'm also having this problem which started after I downloaded the paid version. The trial or free version did not have this problem. I've used 1st Page for years, but this bug is making me look elsewhere. I've had pages wiped clean with 0 bytes and I did not save it that way. I did however have to cancel it with Task Manager. I have also tried a clean install. This is a serious bug which will drive customers away by the masses. It doesn't matter what features an editor has if it deletes all of your work. This is a bug which Evrsoft should give top priority.

Well I'm less than impressed with Evrsoft. They have not addressed this issue in this forum and they have not bothered to answer my email to them.

Lose a customer & they NEVER come back!

Hi,

I'm also having this problem which started after I downloaded the paid version. ...

I had problems with FP2006, so just went back to FP2000. If the older version works for you, why quit using it? When 1st Page 2006 is finally stable I plan to purchase a copy to show my appreciation for all the work that's been put into both programs but I don't buy unstable programs if I know about it ahead of time.

... hmm. Perhaps that's why I never buy a Microsoft product when it first comes out ... :hehe:

1) First I'm not planning to buy a copy - I HAVE purchased a copy
2) FP2000 crashes too often with XP, but since it was free no complaints. Maybe there are conflicts with other installed Apps too.
2) This issue here is not Microsoft - It's Evrsoft. All I asked for is an answer, not silence. As a paying customer I expected more.
3) They had long enough to put out a stable program so the bugs should be minimal plus I didn't know it was unstable. I was willing to live with some bugs, but when your files become corrupted, that's a bit much.

I was once as loyal a customer as you, but when they start acting the same way towards their customers as Microsoft, I question why people agressively defend them & trash MS for doing the same. And to be clear, I'm not a fan of MS either.

1) First I'm not planning to buy a copy - I HAVE purchased a copy ...

Then you should probably contact the organization that you purchased the program through (PayPal?) and ask for a refund.

I'm not necessarily defending evrsoft but there is a huge difference between Microsoft products and evrsoft products. As far as I know, there is only a single person doing the actual coding on 1st Page. I believe Bill Gates hires one or two more than that. ;)

I don't think any program, especially one that has been released as supposedly ready for public use (not a beta) should cause harm to your data. That is the biggest reason I stopped using 1st Page 2006, there were just too many odd things happening for me to trust it. I like the free version enough however to stick around here and hope that the new version eventually gets fixed properly.

That won't stop me from investigating other options when they are mentioned but it will cause me to look at FP2k6 again whenever a fix is announced. So far we know some changes have been made but it is hard to know how many and what was changed as there are no version numbers associated with the program. If I were the programmer, I would have a standard methodology for indicating changes to the program, if for no other reason than I wouldn't want to confuse myself as to which is the latest. I'm not the programmer and I don't know the programmer, so I simply have to "wait-and-see" what happens ... or, as you indicate you are going to do, go elsewhere for something that works now.

Whatever you do, I wish you the best and hope you find something that fits your needs. If you do, please come back here and let the rest of us know. We might find it useful as well.

Since I bought directly from Evrsoft, I'll forget about the refund. I've purchased a lot of software over the net and this is the first time I've been ripped off. If you're happy with FP2000, then keep using it. It was certainly very good for me.

As for Bill Gates, he started out alone once. There is a reason we still use his software. When MS was small, they knew the value of customer support. I know first hand because they spent 6 months helping me overcome a problem with Foxpro. All the guy from Evrsoft needed to do was to address this forum. Enough said.

You said that if I found an editor I liked to let you know. I tried just about every editor I could find and while most appear to be very good, they almost all had a quirk I didn't like. I wanted an HTML editor with PHP features and it looks like I'll probably go with WeBuilder 2006(www.blumentals.net). They have a sale which ends January 19. I won't have the time to check out the PHP features before I buy, but it works very well as an HTML editor. Great refresh rate too. To give you an idea for the features it has, I'd say it's between FP2000 & FP2006. WeBuilder has given me no problems in the 3 days I've used it.

I emailed them with a question (appears to be one guy too) and he answered the very next day. Good customer support and he got a new customer.

For those of you sticking it out with FP, good luck!

I would get a refund....does not matter how much you buy over the net..

If you buy a lot may I suggest Dreamweaver from Adobe/Macromedia....one editor that really does shine.

It's pretty tough to get a refund when they/he doesn't answer. I would have to go through a real process to get the refund. Dealing with the banks/card companies etc. If there was more money involved, I would certainly do it. My time is better spent working on my own website. We (the users) made Evrsoft popular through word-of-mouth and the bad press will do the reverse.

I've heard a lot of good things about Dreamweaver, but the price will keep me away. WeBuilder does everything I want & I'm a sucker for supporting small businesses. The one thing I usually do before I buy on the net is email the company and ask a question about the product. If I don't have anything I need to know, I make something up. I then base my decison to buy on the quality of the response and of course how long it takes them to respond. That was something which I didn't do with FP, so I only have myself to blame.

no, 2checkout handles the process and just email them.......it only takes a little time really with them...Evrsoft answers to them.....so really they are easy and I use them..in fact I have two accounts. It also cost evrsoft money each time also so it makes them respond on chargebacks.

I have not found a single person to say that they have responded. Many say the phone number is wrong. Also think if it like this. if you buy several editors over say two years. Save a little and you can then afford DW :)

Well I took your advice & opened a ticket with 2checkout. We'll see what happens.

As far as DW, I really don't see what it can do for me. It might have a lot of features but if I don't need those features, then why wait. I went and bought WeBuilder. I need PHP & HTML and it does both. It's a stable editor, a good fast preview window. You can create snippets of code and assign a shortcut key to it. It has a lot of features and they ask for suggestions. Good product support. I've used it for 5 days and I haven't wished for FP once.

Nice that you have found a good editor to use. Hope all turns out well with 2checkout and the $$
