sometimes when i start up FP2k, i get this wierd error that sais "drive not availible", reffering to one of my cdrom drives, and then askes if i want to try again. pressing cancel about eight times makes it stop and then FP continues to load.
:hellother
When I install the 1st Page 2000, I put on c: drive (which is default drive).
If you install other drive, make sure you install before the CDrom drive, not after. Most program search from c: to last letter of drive.
If your CDrom drive is D:, you will have to reconfigurage your CDrom drive letter to other drive letter. Mostly c: and d: are resereve for hard drive. Try putting on e: or f:. If you have zip drive, it should be last letter after CDrom.
Good luck

I have installed 1stpage on two computers (both from the same downloaded file, and both installations were carried out in exactly the same manner) ---
However, when I start the program on my computer at home, I always get the following error . . .
"There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk2\DR2"
Then I have to press the "Continue" button 5 times before the program opens.
Is there an "ini" or other file which can be edited to correct this problem? It seems like the program is trying to open a file when it starts, but is unable to locate it.
As far as the operation of the software, I have had no other errors.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you may give.

I get this (windows popup error) message:
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk1\DR1. Cancel, Try Again, Continue...
I hit cancel 5 times, and it goes away. What gives? Is there a FAQing answer for this? Anyone?
[Please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk1\DR1]
[Please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk2\DR2]
These are the reply I get from user whom have problem to unknow drive. What system operation software you all used? These look like it not Microsoft drive name. It look like linux or unix system.
Please let me know what operation system you have.

I'm using Windows 2000. I know it sounds like a mount point problem in Linux, though. That's why I don't understand this problem at all.
This may be a problem. Window 2000 is network system just like Window NT. Do you have simple Window system (98/me/xp) ? If do, try download or copy to simple window system and run it. These simple window use word drive (c:) while NT & 2000 use numbering (dev1). If you don't have simple window system, then it will be bad life.
Are you using Window 2000 at home or work? If at home, it is junk. At work, who run the system?
At my work, it have Window NT for network only with simple window program, not hard drive system. It does have standard drive name.
I think there are two kind of Window 2000. One is for pc and other for main system. These both are not the same but differ configerate.
Let me know which Window 2000 system you have? And are you using at home or work?

This error has been showing up for numerous applications. Popular opinion has it that it's caused by QuickTime, but it's not. It's due to some weird problem with Zip drives and how Win2k and XP deal with them.
Say you have a system that has one or more hdd partitions, followed by a Zip drive in your logical drive map. Eg., C: (HDD), D: (Zip), E: (CDRom)
Now, you either add another drive or partition C: into a couple or three partitions. You end up with something like this:
C: (HDD part1) D: (ZIP) E: (HDD part2) F: (CDRom)
And at this point it's likely that this error message will begin showing up, depending on the standard windows controls that are used in an app.
Microsoft's official solution is to remove the Zip drive, reinstall the OS, then reinstall the Zip drive. Here's an easier solution to try first:
Change the Zip drive's logical drive letter to something later, like Z:.
C: (HDD part1) E: (HDD part2) F: (CDRom) Z: (Zip)
That solved it in my situation.
I also like to set my CDROM to drive R:.

You did good job by changing the zip drive name.
Note to all user: Zip drive alway mount the last drive letter. Read your Zip manual. Also CD drive should never be used as D: drive. If you don't have d: drive, make CD as E: drive or any other drive excepts c: and d:

I guess since I always move my CD RW to M: (it is a Memorex) and my Daemon Tools Drives to W X Y Z I don't have this problem.
Good thing to note, however for future reference.

FP is the only program I run that gives the "Disk not available error". And it gives it every time I run the program.
I'm not about to change around my drive designations for one program, so what's the real solution? This is clearly a bug. Will it be fixed?
Thanks for any help.

Have you reinstalled FP? Have you changed anything on your computer?
Did you save a file to a specific drive? Well as far as a fix goes, this is an old editor so I'm guessing you will not find one if its a bug.
does your situation or problem similar to any of the above posts, ie running xp or zip drives etc?

Hi Folks, I have taken this information and tried an experiment. I do have a zip drive. I found that if I simple insert a disk into that drive and leave it in the drive, the program starts fine.
Hope this helps someone.

I use XP Pro SP2
This thread did the job for me!
I got rid of this startup issue. I had D: mapped to "Disk 2" type removable - strange, as not have one. Anyway by mapping to F: via Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management giving me C:/HDD and E:/CD-ROM and F:
FP fires up A-OK now.
I'd like it to start with the file last opened but not sure about that. The File -> Reopen works ok so not grumbling really.
BTW - FP is a total revelation!!! Only scratched the surface but can see many sessions yet to be done with total pleasure :weee:
Thanks EvrSoft for a real pro package.
