Hey roomies! :)
I was fooling around with this new windows program,
and a thought occured to me. It (this new pc) has a lot of little musical
icons on desktop that lead to online music websites.
How can I add an icon to my desktop and it is my own,
one that will reach a website that I like? Example: This
desktop came with "EMusic" ....I went there and am not
interested. But I shop a lot at gemm.com ....and would love to have an icon with a link to their site on desktop!!!
Can I write some code and place it with the icon and then to
desktop???? Well, its' something for you real techhies to think
about, and if you have suggestions, I'm always in need of some-
thing new to stick in the ole' gray matter!
Thanks for listening....

Its really easy.
Just drag the little icon in your address bar (right next to the url) on to the desktop, release your mouse button and..... ^_^

ZeroAngel,
ummmm....you said "easy"...maybe because I
work with an Artist I have to "see" it in my
head to understand...how d I get the url on my
desktop? With copy and paste in notepad? Sorry
to sound ignorant, but guess I am a bit niiave
and fresh, (but am thinking big anyway! LOL)
If you could be more explicit , I'd appreciate.

If you don't see the icon, maybe you're not using IE,but there's another way:
right click on desktop, and there will show a menu, click the "create new file" or some thing like that(I'm using a chinese edition of windows),then click "short cut",It'll jump out a dialog.place your url here, click next step, and give it a name.
HTH:rolleyes:

Drag and drop functionality is an elemental part of the Windows GUI. Drag and drop behaviour is contextual.
When you click and drag a file, a couple of things can happen. The file can be moved or copied.
This behaviour can be forced by using the ctrl (forces copy) or shift (forces move) keys.
If the drag is between different drives - the default behaviour is always to copy.
If it is on the same drive the default is to move.
The exception is for executable files (programs). The default behaviour there is to create a shortcut in the destination.
Many of the objects on your screen are just graphical representations of directories. That is why you can drag and drop program (*.exe) files to your desk top, the quicklaunch toolbar, the start menu, etc. and you will get a shortcut.
You get the same effect when you drag and drop URLs, which behave in a very similar fashion.
One of the most useful things you can do with URLs is to (in IE) click on the blue [e ] icon next to address: on your address bar and drag over Favorites on your menu bar. The Favorites menu will expan and you can then drop the link into the folder of your choice. Folders will open to subfolders if you just hover.Try it out - it is a real time saver
