sorry this is a double post but i figured i would get more replies here...:)

i am really stupid. I want to get forums on my website. I downloaded a php thing, a "MySQL" thing, and "vanilla" which is for forums i assume, and I don't know what to do after the downloads. I can't find the PHP thing i downloaded although it might not be a program for all i know. I am using a freewebs site and any help guiding me with what i must do from here would be great! (I will surely credit you!) (If i could find/make a database for my site that would probably solve many of my problems but i dont know how:()

Thick, I'd like to know if the site from which you downloaded the forum software has any tutorials or other directions, or a help forum specifically geared to getting people started. While many forums are *practically* plug-and-play, many do require a fairly sophisticated knowledge of php, mysql and use of webspace control panels and such to set permissions and such.

When I set up a forum, I first installed a WAMP distribution (Windows, Apache, MySQL, PHP) that allowed me to set up the forum on my machine at home and tinker with it. Only then did I upload it to a website. BTW, some web hosts require you to contact them to set up a new MySQL database on their server.
