PhotoPlus 8.
Since I'm kinda short of the $600 to get Photoshop, I started looking around for another graphics program.
I came across a company called Serif, and they had a free graphics editor...PhotoPlus 5. I checked it out, and found it was OK at best for simple graphics.
They sent me a special offer to upgrade to version 6, for $5. So I took the plunge.
Well, I think it's worth $5. Again, It's ok for simple stuff. (though I'd be the first to admit I'm no Graphics Master!).
So to make a long story short, I spoke with a sales person at Serif. She claimed she was familiar with Photoshop and that she was able to do everything in the latest anf greatest PhotoPlus that she could do in Photoshop. She also claims that most plug-ins for Adobe work in PhotoPlus.
I just want to know if anyone has used PhotoPlus 8 and what they have to say.
Version 6 is OK, but is not without a few drawbacks.
Oh, the price is about $80, but my "**Even more Special Offer**"
that they sent last would get it (and a few other goodies) for $30.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Another decent program in the same range is Adobe Photoshop Elements. There are a few features I miss from photoshop but at 1/8th the price...

I got legal and can still do everything I need. :-)

I've thought about that one.
Is it really good? Will the plug-ins and filters work?

Jasc Paint Shp Pro 6-7 is a good program.

I also like Ulead PotoImpact 7 (they have just released version 8, but I havent tried that yet).

Micrografx Picture Publisher is also useful.

And I should get life instead of testing different graphics packags all the time:)

I d/led 5.5. It doesn't replace Corel PhotoPaoint but the image slicing and mapping tools are great.

I have been through the image manipulation wars. Gone from Photoshop to CorelDraw to GIMP to bla bla bla and back. Photoshop is the best. It is very expensive HOWEVER there is a way around that. If you have a friend who is a full time student in university, they can buy a copy of it for you and it is half price at bookstores.

Truthfully, I spent more time, money, and aggrevation trying to find an alternative to Photoshop, than I would have if I just saved my pennies and bought a copy.

Before I got photoshop (which is wonderful) I used GIMP, a GNU type program. It works really well, however it can be kinda confusing for beginners. You have to play with it to learn how to use it well. But it's free! Who can beat that?

*never* respond to spam. It takes one sucker out of a thousand to make a spam operation economical.

There's also a chance that the 'offer' you got in your e-mail is a rip-off, or pirated goods.

I have heard of this company, they do other products aswell, go (Of course with a paper bag over your head) into somewhere like PCworld, they're in the design area.

Never actually tried them though.

Actually, I got Photoshop 6 for $250 off ebay. The whole registerable version. No book though, but I bought the Photoshop Bible and that's better than the manual...
