I've heard a lot of good things about this editor. When will it be Vista compatible or are there some tweaks I could do to make it work? If it's not compatibile, all it will do is crash like every other editor I have tried. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Nice to find a forum people actually participate in. I'll check back once in a while. Can't wait to try the program, but am not even going to give it a shot if it's not compatible.

I can understand and sympathize with that attitude. Some of our long term members may be able to recommend other editors they like that would work for you if this one is not compatible.

Id just like to quickly reply that yes, it's completely vista compatible. Its just a 32bit application, so it runs even in 64bit vista. I run vista on 6 pcs in this house, and 3 of them have 1stpage installed, ive never come across any problems.
Just for future references, most programs not developed in 16bit and are not reliant on specific drivers are vista capable just as much as they are xp or 2000 or even 98 capable.
Programs that are reliant on drivers (like for example my packet snooping software) did not run until new drivers were released (which happened nearly two years ago when the first private beta of vista was released).
To be honest, the best method is really to just do it yourself. If a program doesnt start modifying your drivers there is very little harm it can do in vista. The worst case scenario is it wont run and you spend the extra thirty seconds on uninstalling it in the programs and features button in control panel.
That would have been a quicker method then waiting days for a reply in a thread that chances are you will forget that you posted in.

Well, despite what Skythra says, it is not compatible on all Vista installations. I have Vista Home version and 1stpage 2006 fails to run. The error mentions something about an APPCRASH event.
So far, I'd say that there have been about a half dozen apps that I have personally tried that do not run well or at all on Vista. In each case the developers have confirmed the problem and have provided an update.
So again, there is a lot of mature professionaly produced software that is not compatible with Vista. It looks to me as though 1stPage is one of them. Too bad, because I doubt if anything will be done about it my lifetime.

First Page 2000, or 2006?

I didn't find FP2006 stable enough to use on anything.

I'm running Vista on my computer, and stopped by here to see if 1st Page will run on it...and it sounds doubtful. I've found one HTML editor that does work with Vista...it's a freebie called Alleycode, but for the record, it doesn't come anywhere near 1st page in features or performance. The download site from which I downloaded it didn't actually indicate that it would work on Vista, so I may be forcing it, but so far it hasn't crashed my computer. It just refuses to do some tasks...like display certain graphics file extensions....it's very frustrating.
My reservations about trying 1st Page 2006 is that it came out before Vista was released which would suggest that the drivers aren't compatible.
If you go to Google and type in "Software for Vista" you'll find pages that list much of the software that is compatible with download links for some of it. I was amazed to discover that Paint Shop Pro v. 7 works quite nicely....and I wasn't wanting to have to buy a new PSP. (The Help file doesn't work on PSP 7 though).
I've had computers for over ten years, and have invested a lot of money in software that is now useless. This computer I have now is a Gateway...I got it about six months ago and it came with Vista. Getting used to it is very frustrating. MS claims it's faster...it isn't. Windows 98 is no longer supported by MS, and XP will be obsolete...next year, or in 2009 I think. My computer guru told me that MS is only required to support an operating system for 8 years. Fortunately, the computer I just retired still works (mostly) so I can use it for things I can't do on Vista. And here's a tip. If you're thinking of getting a new computer that comes with Vista loaded, check with the manufacturer before buying. I've read that some of the new computers with Vista are locked so that if you hate Vista and want to get rid of it and load XP, you can't do it.
I used 1st Page 2000 for years, taking it from one new computer to the next, and I loved it, and I hate not being able to use it now. I hope Evrsoft will upgrade 2006 soon. Years ago I tried DreamWeaver, which is very expensive, and went right back to 1st Page. It's the best I've ever found.

I had a problem running the program on Vista Home. I found out this was the solution in my case: Under properties of the icon, compatibility, make sure below you check 'Run this program as an administrator'. It was not even needed to set to XP compatible, just the admin rights did the trick. It was hard to find out, because I never actally got an error message saying this was the problem.
