Slow Rollover Images

I've been playing with the rollover image java script in 1st Page 2000. It works great when I'm building the web page on my PC, but once posted on-line, the effect is almost nullified by the slow response of the rollover image. Both the primary and secondary rollover images are in the 3-5Kb size range. I would have thought that both images would be downloaded so that the rollover image would pop up instantly. Not so, it seems. Is there some way to force the secondary image to load in the background? Is there something I'm missing with this rollover thing? I was using it for link buttons, but the user would probably click through before the rollover image appears.

Any help is welcome.

You can use CSS to preload the images in the background. For example...
<div style="display:none;">
<img src="images/image1.jpg"><img src="images/image2.jpg">etc...
</div>

Everything within that <div> container will NOT be displayed, but it will load and cache.

I knew there had to be a way. Thanks to both for the rapid response. I'll try both methods and see how it goes.
