Bindel and I are having a little tussle here, good folks, and need the forum to arbitrate.

This is what we are arguing about. (http://developers.evrsoft.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=5293#post5293)

So what do you folks think looks best?

I think scroll bars should be as unobtrusive as possible. You should not notice the scrollbar unless you go looking for it. Anytime the scrollbar is among the top five things I first notice when I see the site for the first time, it is too much in the forefront. I like the "modern" look of the scrollbar (with the contrasting lines on the bar) just for a little style. If I used the stylized scrollbar, I would use the coloring similar to the footer background color. Too much wine makes me a bit sick to my tummy.

I also think you should get rid of those distracting big numbers in the center of the page...:D

Yeah, not all sites need colored scrollbars to look good.

I think Microsoft as a hole (no, I didn't misspell that!) it more guilty than anyone else for non-compliance with W3C recommendations. Their Internet Explorer even more so. If you can create compliant code that looks good and runs well under multiple browsers I say stick to what you know is right.

As far as scrollbars, my personal opinion is, "less is better." Scrollbars are a tool, not a design statement. Is your site really that poor that you must rely on the scrollbars to set it apart!? I don't think so.

Did I just unintentionally ressurrect a dead post!? http://developers.evrsoft.com/forum/images/smilies/M0OA5574.GIF

All the dates I can see are from 2002 ...

The post above mine seems to have a post date of "12-20-2002, 10:23 PM" yet I know it came up under "New Posts".

Polls come up when someone votes, not just when they are posted in :P.

I agree mostly, but to be fair (and no I do not use IE, nor do I like it, but it should be mentioned) IE6 supports 87% of all current web standards and IE7 will be higher still. That is not bad, though CSS2 and 3 are major gaps. I have yet to see a browser with full CSS2 support though, I know NN, Opera and Fx all do not.
