Notices are posted all over the forum that this is not a virus. It is good to read a lot about a forum before posting. I know your intention was good and we welcome you to our little group.

Yes, I have. Norton utilities did a good job quarantining it. It did exactly what Norton said about it on thier definitions page. More importantly, I have some questions that I feel are being overlooked. 1- How did it get put there in the first place. 2- How do you get rid of the script from the Eversoft button web page. 3- What else might there be hidden. 4- Can Eversoft products be trusted. Macromedia makes a reliably supported product called Dreamweaver that accompishes the task. I will probally delete 1st Page 2000 from my computer, a shame. But, once bitten shame on Eversoft, twice bitten shame on me.

Thanks Dave. Your reply is probably one of the most intelligent responses I've seen to this problem.

I too found the trojan in the "six buttons from hell" script. Weather it's a real problem or not. OUT it goes. anyone who runs norton should have it set to try to fix any virus it finds. Failing that, it's backup action should be to quarantine the file.
After finding out that Norton quarantined it. I realized it was just one small insignificant script (out of many) that is an option for you to use. You can use Norton to delete it permanently. If you don't have Norton to pull it out, simply look in "program files/eversoft/Iscripts/buttons and look around for it. (the START/Search function should also find it if you search for the folder "Iscripts". Then click on that and then click on "Buttons" you'll see the file "six buttons from hell" ) You should also see the file "Buttons.html" in there, that's the file you need to edit to get rid of the reference to the six buttons. (see next):

I also followed Daves advice on editing out the section of code where it shows it on the buttons in the Eversoft list. I used Notepad to open it, used "find" to find: "from hell" and then removed that section of the table that Dave referred to. Thank you Dave! You da man!
Sincerely

Trend Micro's PC-cillin 2003 also picked this up as a virus. Since it couldn't "clean" it, I sent it to them for evaluation, then deleted the file itself. Then I came here looking for any info if this had been reported, or fixed, or the software updated.

It's too bad Eversoft doesn't feel it's reputation is valuable enough to remove this problem file. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone until they do.

But it was very easy to fix the html coding with your instructions, and I thank you!

I have been using first page for about three years now. I teach script manipulation for stationery for email usage and 1st. Page is what I recommend. I am aware of the script 6 buttons and have removed it totally from my puter. I teach others to do the same thing.

When things pop up continuosly as in a loop script.... you can simply continue clicking the enter key (same as trying to reach that ok button on the window before another pops up, but much faster) which closes that window and with the other hand move the mouse over to the X top right and close the program.

On my Win98SE I have Panda platinum and when I scan 1st.Page before removing 6 buttons... it came up clean.. I did an online scan... still no virus detected.
Tho some of my people were getting the warnings especially from Norton. (I am shocked that McAfee could detect anything) Until after you got it!!!

Anyway.. I have a new laptop with Win XP and the newest version of Norton...(dat files updated) I installed my burned copy of 1st.Page containing the six buttons ....
Norton did not detect any virus either. NONE

I think its sad that 1st.Page site doesn't have it for download. I do understand the point of not offering it.

I hope they do not quit on us.... I would be totally lost without 1st.Page.

I will continue to share my version and educate my people on the removal of the file.

And if and when Eversoft returns, I will be first in line. Hugs to the staff... from a 1st.Page addict. CherokeeCandy

I use 1st page as a teaching tool with my Certificate in General Education for Adults class. Sure, we have had the virus warnings with Vet, but we just deleted it and moved on. As far as I am concerned, for making web pages that even newbies can do, there is none better than 1st Page. I love the features and the fact that it is functional for all levels of understanding. That is no mean feat. I give Evrsoft a big thumbs up
