Default Sub Domain Redirection Help?

Hi,

I had came across a rare scenario of redirection or fixing the canonical issue of sub domains - I Have a sub domain - for example http://xyz.123.com I had fixed all issues regarding redirecting the http://xyz.123.com/index.html to main sub domain (http://xyz.123.com).

When I searched for Google maps, If we type WWW.maps.Google.com its redirecting to http://maps.google.com, my question is -
Is it necessary to redirect the WWW version of sub domain (WWW.maps.Google.com) to sub domain (http://maps.google.com)? If Yes, In what way is it useful to the user and SEO aspect?

Thanks In Advance

I don't understand why you wish to redirect your domain. In the particular example you have given, it's not about shortening urls. If you tell me what reason you had in mind, I may know which are the consequences in terms of SEO.

Hello,

i think you should do a 301 redirect, to have no duplicate content.
