Folder Mappings
How do i preview an asp page?
1st Page doesn't provide an option to configure mapping of folders like homesite and other editors does. The result is that .asp is viewed as html, rather than being executed.
Example:
map c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ to http://127.0.0.1/ so that 1st page would be editing a file in the given path, but the browser would be showing the output generated when the .asp is executed by the server.
Does anyone have a solution?

Asp has to be run at the server.
If you really want to run it,install pws(personal web sever),it's on your win98 cd-rom.

We were originally going to add this feature to 1st Page, however we thought we would leave it alone as it could perhaps scare away new users.
FYI, another HTML editing engine is currently being developed for power users.

Admin: I think that you should implement this feature. It should be easy for you, and i don't think it would confuse anyone. You could make this an expert or hardcore option, or implement it in some other way where newbies wouldn't even know the option was there!
Im sure that people running IIS, Apache or some other asp/php/script enabled server would appreciate this option.

Some few remarks.
Josh: I know that you have to run a asp-enabled server in order to run asp. This is NOT the problem.
The problem is that 1st page previews the file as it appears on disk, and not as it appears when run by the server!
EnwTheGood:
I use the IIS ímplemented in XP, and it works fine. ( did anything ever work in 98? ). However i think that surely a lot of users are running pws without the problems you describe.
Admin:
A new engine would be very welcome, indeed!
Keep up the good work!

According to
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/whichxp.asp
only proffesional edition provides Internet Information Services.
It comes with an internet information server that is limited to 10 simultaneous client connections. ( plenty for most developing and testing purposes! ).

The 10 simultanious connections thing is only to do with the ftp features of IIS though, not people viewing the site. Or so say the MS people on their internal .NET newsgroups

I suspected as much, which is why I used IIS while learning ASP.

chilisoft asp
chilisoft's implementation of asp is not "crap". we have run it *very* successfully for the past year and a half on apache. a better guess is that you couldn't figure out the implementation, got frustrated and just decided to call it crap.
that being said, there's nothing like the real thing baby.
Happy coding,
TD
