Meta Tags are one of the most important thing in Search Engine Optimization/Search Engine Marketing, In that "Meta description tag" is the most important one. The META Description Tag usually consists of 25 to 30 words or less using not more than 160 to 180 characters totally including spaces. The Meta description also shows up in many search engine results as a summary of your site.The META Description Tag is still an important factor in the overall equation of page development. Everything you do to that page will have an influence on something. i.e A description tag must explain the content of the page & what are they working with.

For everyone else, if you really want to make an information post, please add lots of white space to make things more readable. Blank lines should separate paragraphs and any links should visually stand out from the text.

Meta tags are tags that you use in your html in between these tags <head> ---- </head> meta tags are diffrent kind and are used for many parpouse. the most important tag is title in SEO point of view.

As far as search engine ranking is concerned, Meta tags add little to no value. Only meta description tag used as part of snippet..

Google only check the site URL.no more value to metatag.

Meta description is very important, but how about meta tags? I heard that it is not important anymore. Is it true?

meta descr is quite important. However it takes a lot more to get a page rank better. Few to mention are:
content
internal linking
h1 tags
title
etc etc

and dont forget backlinks.

Meta tags are the html codes which is placed within the head section, after the title tag.

Adding a Meta description tag, a unique one, for each page, Google uses that information as extra criteria to determine the uniqueness of the page.

I would say meta description tags are important, not as much as they used to, but they are still important, it certainly helps in the serp’s rankings.

I think that using unique, relevant description meta tag to each page keeping it between 25 and 150 characters in length are effective for search engine optimization.

Meta tag description will be important as it convey site information to search engine. If you have posted right information here you will sure get traffic to your site.
