Small steps you can take to promote your site.

No, I'm not talking about washing your hands fifty times a day or smoking a pack of cigarettes. That's just not healthy. However, if you are obsessed with promoting yourself online, you've got a good thing going. If you want traffic you need to sleep, breathe, and eat promotional marketing techniques. Don't assume that just because you've listed your site with the search engines your work is done. That is just your starting point; the beginning, not the end.

You need to start thinking about press releases. You can write them yourself, or pay someone to write and distribute them for you. Editors expect to receive these by E-Mail these days so with a little research you should be able to come up with the E-Mail addresses of your target market. How about classified ads? Write one for your site and one to promote your newsletter. (You do offer a newsletter, right?) Do a search for "free classifieds" and try to post at least four or five a day. Better yet, purchase submission software that will do the work for you. I recommend Trellian's "Classify Pro" software. Do you run your ads in other Ezines? If not, you're missing out on a great way to generate publicity. Do you like to write? Writing articles on a topic you know a lot about is a great traffic generator. There are so many newsletter publishers looking for content to publish in their ezines. When was the last time you applied for an award? I'm not talking about a "Barb's Best" here, but a prestigious award like Netscapes Pick of the Month,Hot Site of the Day or Yahoo's pick of the day.
