Top Tip: Homepage emphasis

By Paul Boag

The most important piece of real estate on your website is your homepage. So how do you decide what it should include?
What are the most popular functions on your site?

Are they emphasized on your homepage or are they lumped together with other, less important tasks, on your homepage? The most popular, and most important functions of your Website should be grouped together in a prominent location on your homepage, in a location where they are not in competition with a lot of other elements. In other words, don't try to make everything on your homepage important, because nothing will get the user's attention. Just take a look at any financial information Website, and you'll see that functions such stock quotes, as well as the movements of the major stock indexes, are emphasized heavily.
